Connecting Mobile Toilet to Balcony

Admin September 21, 2026

Connecting the bathroom to the balcony is a feasible renovation method that offers multiple advantages, including space expansion, improved lighting and ventilation, and enhanced functionality, although there are some considerations to keep in mind.

Space Expansion and Functional Optimization: After connecting the bathroom to the balcony, the most noticeable change is the significant increase in space. Without the barrier of the partition wall, the internal activity space in the bathroom increases, and the division of functional areas, which was previously crowded due to limited space, can be optimized. For example, the washer-dryer and bathroom cabinet in the dry area can be moved to the original balcony location, making the separation of wet and dry areas more thorough. Alternatively, the balcony can be transformed into an independent wet area, equipped with a showerhead and bathtub, creating a comfortable bathing space. An additional sink can also be designed on the balcony, facilitating simultaneous洗漱 (washing up) for two people and improving living efficiency. If the shower area is moved to the balcony, with a glass door separating wet and dry areas, and the washing machine placed beneath the sink, this not only prevents moisture from escaping but also makes efficient use of space.

Improved Lighting and Ventilation: The presence of a partition wall blocks the flow of light and air. After removal, light can directly penetrate the bathroom through the windows, greatly improving lighting conditions and making the bathroom brighter. At the same time, air can circulate more smoothly, effectively improving ventilation, reducing dampness and odors, and enhancing living comfort.

Creating a Housekeeping Area: The connected space can be further planned by installing cabinets inside to create a housekeeping area. Install storage cabinets on the balcony to place appliances such as dryers and washing machines. After taking a shower, clothes can be directly thrown into the washing machine. If the balcony is a service balcony, clothes can also be hung out to dry directly. Cleaning tools such as mops and buckets can also be placed nearby, facilitating bathroom cleaning. Reasonably setting the flow of movement can reduce walking distance and improve housekeeping efficiency.

However, there are some considerations when undertaking such a renovation. If planning to place large appliances like washing machines on the balcony, the load-bearing capacity of the balcony must be considered to avoid exceeding its limit and causing safety hazards. At the same time, waterproofing issues must be given high priority, with sewage pipes and floor drains designed reasonably to prevent leaks and water accumulation, which could affect the living experience of both the occupants below and oneself.
