Mobile Toilet

Admin September 20, 2026

A mobile toilet is a facility that can be moved as a whole and provides temporary toilet services to the public. It has the characteristics of being movable, combinable, and easy to transport.

I. Basic Components A mobile toilet typically consists of core components such as a fecal sewage storage tank (or disposal device), floor slab, sanitary ware, walls, washing equipment, water tank, roof, and moving device. Its structure is divided into single-unit and composite types: the single-unit type is an independent unit suitable for small-scale needs; the composite type is composed of multiple units and can expand service capacity. The moving methods include hoisting and handling types (relying on lifting equipment) and powered towing types (equipped with engines or traction devices), adapting to different terrains and transportation conditions.

II. Sewage Treatment Types

  1. Water-flush and waterless-flush suction types: The former flushes with water supplied from a water tank, and the sewage is stored and then regularly pumped out; the latter uses chemical agents or vacuum systems to reduce water consumption, and the sewage also needs to be pumped out for treatment.
  2. Recirculating water-flush type: It uses biodegradation or physical filtration technology to purify sewage, enabling water resource recycling and reducing emissions.
  3. Dry-packing type: It uses biodegradable bags to collect feces without using water. It is suitable for areas with water shortages or high environmental protection requirements, and the waste is treated as solid waste.

III. Application Scenarios and Design Principles Mobile toilets originated from temporary needs, such as large-scale events, disaster relief, or areas where fixed public toilets are insufficient. Their design follows three major principles:

  1. Mobility convenience: Lightweight and durable materials (such as aluminum alloy and metal carved panels) are used, and the height and width are controlled to meet transportation standards. The moving device must be complete and reasonable.
  2. Environmental protection and durability: Insulating and corrosion-resistant materials are preferred to reduce energy consumption; the steel structure frame is firmly welded to extend the service life.
  3. Functional humanization: The interior is fully equipped (such as with daylighting and ventilation windows and independent door locks). Customized models distinguish between male and female areas with clear signs to enhance the user experience.

IV. Typical Case The mobile toilets put into use in the Lanzhou Yellow River Scenic Area in 2023 feature gray-white metal carved panel exterior walls, sliding windows, and aluminum alloy doors. They not only meet the requirements for thermal insulation but also reduce energy consumption through natural daylighting. Such designs combine practicality and aesthetics, serving as a model for supplementing urban public facilities.
