Mobile Gender-Separated Toilet Partitions

Admin October 13, 2026

Mobile gender-separated toilet partitions are mainly achieved by setting up flexible facilities, with common methods including the installation of tidal gates and gender-neutral toilet stalls combined with movable signs or doors.

Installation of Tidal Gates

Installing a lockable sliding tidal gate between the men's and women's restrooms is a common approach. This method creates a universally accessible toilet stall area that can be connected in both directions, allowing management to adjust toilet stall allocation based on actual conditions. For example, during peak tourist seasons or times of high foot traffic, if one gender's restroom is overcrowded with a queue forming, while the other gender's restroom is relatively empty, management can open the tidal gate to reallocate some of the empty stalls to the gender with the longer queue, effectively alleviating queue pressure and improving restroom utilization efficiency.

Installation of Gender-Neutral Toilet Stalls with Movable Signs or Doors

Some "tidal restrooms" are equipped with several "gender-neutral toilet stalls" and utilize movable signs or lockable sliding doors to dynamically adjust access permissions based on real-time foot traffic. When one gender's restroom has a long queue, some of the gender-neutral stalls can be reassigned to that gender. By moving the signs or operating the sliding doors, the usage attributes of the stalls are clearly indicated, enabling users to understand the stall situation and avoid confusion.

Special Case

The "tidal restroom" at West Lake Scenic Area in Huizhou, Guangdong, once used manually operable "flippable signs" in conjunction with iron doors for temporary area conversion. However, this method later sparked controversy, leading to the removal of the flippable signs and their replacement with fixed slot-type door plates. This case illustrates that during the design and implementation of mobile gender-separated toilet partitions, it is essential to fully consider the feelings and practical needs of users to ensure the rationality and operability of the facilities.
