Dimensions of Mobile Environmental Toilets

Admin September 21, 2026

The dimension design of mobile environmental toilets varies depending on specific needs and configurations. Common specifications and design considerations are as follows:

I. Overall Structural Dimensions

The overall dimensions of a mobile environmental toilet must be determined based on the combination of functional modules. For example, a common size for a prefabricated mobile restroom is 2.5 meters (width) × 6.5 meters (length), typically divided into three separate areas, such as men's restroom, women's restroom, and management room. Another common configuration is a combination of four squatting positions and one hand-washing area, with an overall length of up to 6 meters and a width adjusted according to the layout.

II. Functional Unit Dimensions

  1. Squatting Position for Defecation
The standard size range for a single squatting position for defecation is 1.00 to 1.20 meters (length) × 0.85 to 1.20 meters (width). This size must meet the basic needs of users for standing, squatting, and turning around, while also allowing space for cleaning and maintenance.

  2. Urination Station
Each urination station (including urinal) measures 0.70 meters (depth) × 0.65 meters (width). If independent urinals are used, the spacing between adjacent fixtures should be no less than 0.80 meters to avoid usage conflicts and ensure privacy.

  3. Hand-washing Area
The dimensions of the hand-washing area must be designed based on the number of hand-washing basins and the width of the aisle. A single row of hand-washing basins typically has a length of 1.5 to 2.0 meters and a width of 0.6 to 0.8 meters, with a reserved passage space of 0.8 to 1.0 meters.

III. Aisle and Door Dimensions

  1. Aisle Width

    • For single-row squatting positions with outward-opening doors, the recommended aisle width is 1.30 meters to ensure that the door can be fully opened without obstructing passage.
    • For double-row squatting positions with outward-opening doors, the aisle width must be increased to 1.50 meters to accommodate two-way traffic.
    • If squatting positions are designed without doors, the aisle width can be adjusted to 1.20 to 1.50 meters, depending on the actual frequency of use.
  2. Doorway Dimensions
The width of a toilet doorway should generally be no less than 0.80 meters, and the height should be no less than 2.0 meters, to accommodate users of different body sizes and the transportation of equipment.

IV. Design Flexibility

The dimensions of mobile environmental toilets can be further optimized based on site conditions, user numbers, and functional requirements. For example, in tourist attractions with high peak-time traffic, the number of squatting positions can be increased and aisles widened; for temporary event venues, modular design can be used to quickly adjust the layout for efficient space utilization.
