Drawbacks of Mobile Container Houses

Admin September 15, 2026

The drawbacks of mobile container houses mainly include poor thermal insulation performance, inadequate fire resistance, susceptibility to rust, limited space, poor sound insulation, poor waterproofing at joints, and high renovation costs.

  1. Thermal Insulation Issues: Due to differences in materials used, the thermal insulation performance of low-end products cannot be guaranteed. To achieve better thermal insulation, it is necessary to choose products from manufacturers with quality assurance, which are usually about twice the price of low-end products.
  2. Inadequate Fire Resistance: When the combustion temperature reaches 600℃, the steel structure will melt, posing a significant fire hazard. Some non-standard white-label products use flammable materials and have a fire rating of only Class C. In the event of a fire, the fire spreads rapidly, causing serious casualties and property damage.
  3. Susceptibility to Rust: Steel structures exposed to humid environments for long periods are at risk of rusting. Anti-rust measures, such as long-term anti-corrosion treatment, must be taken, which increases usage costs and maintenance difficulty.
  4. Limited Space: Containers are not originally designed for human habitation, so their internal space is relatively small, with poor ventilation and lighting, resulting in low living comfort. They are not suitable for long-term on-site office work or living that requires high spatial comfort.
  5. Poor Sound Insulation: Metal materials have relatively good sound transmission properties, so the sound insulation performance may be poor. Additional sound insulation treatment may be required to reduce noise interference.
  6. Poor Waterproofing at Joints: If multiple containers are joined together, the waterproofing at the joints is not good and requires regular maintenance. Otherwise, leakage problems may occur, affecting usage.
  7. High Renovation Costs: The overall structure of container houses is made of steel, making renovation more difficult compared to ordinary houses and resulting in high renovation costs. Moreover, most container paints used in China are oil-based, which are harmful to the human body.
