Microbial Degradation Mobile Toilet
The microbial degradation mobile toilet is an environmentally friendly sanitation facility based on microbial decomposition technology, capable of achieving harmless treatment of excreta without the need for water supply and sewerage networks, suitable for locations lacking water and electricity or without sewage discharge permits.

Core Working Principle
This toilet biologically degrades excreta using microbial strains. Its core component is a fermentation degradation tank equipped with microbial strains and a mixer. Through constant-temperature heating (approximately 800W power) and mechanical transmission, excreta and microbial strains are thoroughly mixed. At suitable temperatures (exceeding 60℃ in some models), microorganisms rapidly decompose organic matter, converting excreta into carbon dioxide, water, and a small amount of organic fertilizer residue. Treated gases are discharged through exhaust pipes in compliance with standards, while residues are cleared every 3-6 months, with microbial strains needing simultaneous replacement.
Structural and Functional Characteristics
- Modular Design: Comprising a squatting pan, fermentation tank, exhaust pipe, PLC control system, etc., some models are equipped with intelligent temperature control systems that automatically adjust temperatures to enhance degradation efficiency and sterilize.
- Energy Efficiency and Adaptability: Consuming 3-5 kWh of electricity per day, it requires an initial one-time injection of 70-80 kg of water to activate microbial colonies, with no need for continuous flushing thereafter, making it suitable for water-scarce areas. The toilet body adopts a steel-frame cement composite structure, offering strong thermal insulation, a service life exceeding 20 years, and the ability to withstand extremely cold environments.
- Environmental Protection and Convenience: Odorless and pollution-free, residues can be recycled as organic fertilizer; requiring no professional maintenance, it is mobile and flexible, suitable for scenic spots, public places, and temporary events.
Technological Advantages and Applications
This technology is a key project under the National 863 Program, having obtained 20 patents and achieving standardized production. Its advantages include:
- Eco-Friendly: Reduces sewage discharge and reliance on traditional sewerage networks;
- Cost-Effective: Low long-term operating costs and simple maintenance;
- Versatile Applications: Already applied in high-traffic areas such as Beijing Olympic venues and the Badaling Great Wall, demonstrating its reliability in extreme environments.
Limitations
It requires regular replenishment of microbial strains and cleaning of residues, and extremely low temperatures may affect microbial activity (relying on thermal insulation design). Overall, the microbial degradation mobile toilet represents an innovative solution that balances environmental protection and practicality.
