Methods for Disinfecting Mobile Toilets

Admin October 08, 2026

The disinfection methods for mobile toilets mainly include physical disinfection and chemical disinfection, as detailed below:

Physical Disinfection

  • High-temperature Disinfection: Utilize high-temperature steam generated by a steam generator to spray and disinfect surfaces such as the toilet bowl and sink in mobile toilets. High-temperature steam effectively kills bacteria and viruses. For fecal treatment, ensure the temperature reaches above 80℃ and is maintained for more than 30 minutes to thoroughly eliminate pathogens.
  • Ultraviolet Disinfection: Install ultraviolet disinfection lamps inside mobile toilets and turn them on during periods when the toilet is not in use. Ultraviolet light achieves disinfection by destroying the DNA structure of microorganisms, with an exposure time of no less than 30 minutes. Ultraviolet disinfection offers advantages such as simple operation and no chemical residue, but precautions must be taken against its harmful effects on human skin and eyes, necessitating use in unoccupied environments.

Chemical Disinfection

  • Chlorine-based Disinfectants: Dilute chlorine-based disinfectants (such as 84 disinfectant, bleaching powder, sodium hypochlorite) according to a specific ratio and use a sprayer to thoroughly spray the floor, walls, toilet bowl, and other surfaces in the toilet. Chlorine-based disinfectants possess strong oxidizing properties and can rapidly kill various microorganisms, but attention must be paid to controlling the concentration to avoid corrosion of toilet facilities.
  • Peracetic Acid: Use a 0.5%-1% concentration of peracetic acid solution for spraying, taking care to ensure safety precautions such as wearing masks and gloves. After application, rinse with water to remove any residual disinfectant. Peracetic acid can also be diluted to an appropriate concentration for wiping or spraying disinfection, but due to its corrosive nature, protective clothing and gloves should be worn during use.
  • Chlorine Dioxide: Use 5-10mg of chlorine dioxide per cubic meter of water, dissolve, and spray for 30 minutes. Chlorine dioxide has a broad-spectrum bactericidal effect and is less likely to develop resistance.
  • Alcohol Disinfection: For frequently touched parts in mobile toilets, such as door handles and faucets, use 75% alcohol for wiping disinfection. Alcohol can rapidly kill bacteria and evaporates quickly, leaving little residue.

Precautions: During disinfection operations, ensure that the mobile toilet is unoccupied to prevent harm from disinfectants to humans. After disinfection, promptly ventilate the area to reduce the concentration of residual disinfectants. Additionally, regularly perform comprehensive cleaning and disinfection of mobile toilets to maintain good hygiene conditions.
