Praise for American Portable Toilets

The internet meme related to 'Praise for American Portable Toilets' is 'American Beehive,' which originated from a mistranslation of the American portable toilet brand 'Honey bucket.'

Origin of the Incident

This meme originated from a video shared by a netizen about their experiences in the United States, where they directly translated the American portable toilet brand 'Honey bucket' as 'beehive.' In the video, the netizen not only failed to realize this translation error but also further elaborated, praising the 'beehive' as a reflection of the good natural environment there. They even suggested that the United States had special management for bees and jokingly expressed a desire to taste what was inside the 'beehive.' This series of statements attracted widespread attention from netizens.

Triggering Ridicule

'Honey bucket' actually means 'honey bucket' and is a common brand of portable toilets widely used in North America. However, the netizen's direct translation to 'beehive' and the beautiful connotations they associated with bees created a huge contrast with the actual function of portable toilets, resulting in a strong comedic effect. Netizens ridiculed this mistranslation event, spreading it widely and turning it into a popular internet meme in Chinese-speaking circles.

Derivative Nicknames

As the incident spread, netizens also created humorous nicknames like 'Shi Zhen Xiang' (literally 'shit is precious and fragrant'). 'Shi Zhen Xiang' is an exaggeration and satire of the 'praise for America' remarks, implying that the supposed beauty of the 'American beehive' is nothing but false hype. In reality, portable toilets have nothing to do with fragrance, further emphasizing the humorous tone of the mistranslation incident.

Categorized Cases

This incident is often categorized as one of the 'Praising America and Failing' series of cases. On the internet, there are phenomena of excessive praise for the United States, and the mistranslation and inappropriate praise by the netizen in the 'American beehive' incident serve as a counterexample to such blind praise. It reminds people to view things objectively and rationally and avoid making jokes due to a lack of understanding of the actual situation.
