Measurement Specifications for Prefabricated Beams in Houses

Admin September 18, 2026

The measurement specifications for prefabricated beams in houses mainly include two methods: measurement by volume and measurement by quantity, with specific rules as follows:

I. Measurement by Volume
Calculate the volume based on the design drawing dimensions, with the unit being cubic meters (m³), without deducting the volume occupied by reinforcing steel bars and embedded iron parts within the component. The volume formula is $$V = A imes L$$, where:

  • A is the cross-sectional area: Determined according to the design drawing dimensions. For irregular cross-sections (such as T-shaped or I-shaped), calculate by zones and then sum them up, avoiding simplified estimations.
  • L is the effective length of the beam: Needs to be determined according to the type of connection joint:
    • Beam-to-column connection: The beam length is calculated to the side of the column, ignoring the protruding part of the column.
    • Main beam-to-secondary beam connection: The length of the secondary beam is calculated to the side of the main beam, with the length of the main beam including the connection point of the secondary beam.
    • Beam-to-wall connection: The beam length is calculated to the side of the wall, with the volume of the beam head extending into the wall included in the total beam volume.
When calculating, ensure the accuracy of the drawing dimensions, excluding the additional volume of construction joints or joint grouting. However, prefabricated lintels require special treatment: the length of the prefabricated beam at the door and window openings is calculated based on the opening width plus an additional value (e.g., when the opening ≤ 1500mm, L = opening width + 480mm).

II. Measurement by Quantity
According to the Code for Valuation with Bill of Quantities of Construction Works (GB50500), the quantity of prefabricated concrete beams can be measured in "pieces" based on the design drawing dimensions, suitable for scenarios where the number of components needs to be counted.

III. Special Handling Rules

  1. Joints and Supports: When the end of a prefabricated beam is connected to a support, the volume of joint grouting is calculated separately and not included in the volume of the beam itself.
  2. Irregular Cross-Section Beams: Strictly calculate the cross-sectional area by zones according to the drawing, avoiding errors caused by simplification.
  3. Prefabricated Lintels: The length calculation needs to consider the additional value of the opening to ensure structural stability.

IV. Precautions
Measurement should be based on the design drawings, ensuring clear dimension markings to avoid quantity deviations caused by improper handling of joints. For complex connection forms (such as multi-beam intersections), the calculation boundaries should be clarified in combination with the specific design instructions.
