Marathon Mobile Toilet Quantity

Admin October 22, 2026

The number of mobile toilets for marathons varies depending on the scale of the event and specific arrangements. Generally, one mobile toilet is provided for every 300 - 500 people, with a 10% reserve quantity set aside. The provision for events of different scales is as follows:

For a marathon with 10,000 participants, calculated based on the standard of one mobile toilet for every 300 - 500 people, if one toilet is provided for every 300 people, 10000÷300≈33.3, rounded up to 34; if one toilet is provided for every 500 people, 10000÷500 = 20. Considering various factors, at least 25 - 35 mobile toilets are required, and a 10% reserve quantity should also be set aside. The reserve is to cope with unexpected situations, such as some mobile toilets malfunctioning or a sudden increase in the number of users, ensuring the normal use by participants and spectators during the event.

For a marathon with 5,000 participants, similarly, one mobile toilet unit is required for every 300 - 500 participants. If one unit is provided for every 300 people, 5000÷300≈16.7, rounded up to 17; if one unit is provided for every 500 people, 5000÷500 = 10. So, approximately 10 - 17 mobile toilet units are needed. In addition, the ratio of male to female toilet stalls is usually 1:1.5. This ratio is set considering factors such as the relatively longer time women take to use the toilet and actual usage needs, enabling a more reasonable satisfaction of the usage needs of participants of different genders.

Taking the 2025 Beijing Marathon as an example, a total of 169 mobile toilets were set up along the route. The number of toilet stalls on the east side of Tiananmen increased from the original 765 to the current 1,119, with the total number of stalls reaching 1,449. This reflects the adequacy of mobile toilet provision in large-scale marathons and the emphasis on the needs of participants. By increasing the number of toilet stalls, the waiting time for participants can be effectively reduced, enhancing the event experience.
