Marathon Mobile Toilet Arrangement
Admin October 11, 2026
The arrangement of mobile toilets for marathons needs to comprehensively consider quantity, layout, type, and special scenario requirements to ensure comprehensive and efficient service coverage.

I. Quantity Allocation Standards
- Runner Demand: Calculate based on providing 15-20 mobile toilets per 1,000 runners. For 10,000 runners, 150-200 toilet units are needed; if the spectator count reaches 50,000, an additional 60-100 toilet units should be set up.
- Redundancy Design: Reserve 20% of toilet units at key nodes (such as turnaround points and the 10-kilometer mark) to handle sudden surges in foot traffic. For example, the starting area can increase toilet units by 10%-15% to avoid long queues.
II. Layout Planning Principles
- Starting Area:
- Toilet units should be concentrated within 30 meters of the security checkpoint, with 1-2 toilets placed every 100 meters. The ratio of male to female toilet units should be 1:2, and accessible facilities and baby-changing rooms should be provided.
- Reference case: The 2025 Urumqi Marathon set up multiple toilet groups in the starting area, covering the runner assembly zone and security checkpoint.
- Course Route:
- Set up one toilet group (containing 4 standard stalls, 2 male and 2 female) every 2-3 kilometers, with guiding signs placed every 50 meters; at least 2-3 additional toilet units should be added near aid stations (every 5-8 kilometers).
- At critical locations (such as turnaround points and uphill sections), add one toilet every 1-2 kilometers to prevent runners from being unable to find a toilet and affecting their race experience.
- Finishing Area:
- Configure more than 30 toilet units, with separate fast lanes (for finishers) and regular lanes, and add temporary hand-washing points nearby; place 1-2 toilets every 50-80 meters to relieve foot traffic pressure.
- Functional Area Coverage: Toilets must be set up within 50 meters of medical stations and baggage drop areas to ensure timely response to emergencies.
III. Type Selection and Equipment Requirements
- Universal Toilet Units: Account for 10%-15% of the total number, facilitating use by individuals with physical disabilities, parents with children, and other special groups.
- Environmental Standards: Each toilet unit should have an area of at least 1.5 square meters, be equipped with an independent ventilation system and odor control devices; equipment must pass the national "General Technical Conditions for Mobile Toilets" (GB/T 37226-2018) inspection and be installed with emergency alarm devices.
IV. Special Scenario Response Measures
- Rainy Weather Plan: Lay anti-slip mats around toilet units, install rain-proof canopies, and provide drainage facilities to avoid safety hazards caused by water accumulation.
- High-Temperature Response: Set up sunshades and misting systems in toilet areas from 12:00 to 14:00 to lower the ambient temperature.
- Emergency Support: Establish procedures for handling sudden situations such as power outages and blockages, with a reserved 10-minute rapid response time to ensure service continuity.
V. Compliance Review Points
- Enterprise Qualifications: Choose enterprises with municipal sanitation service qualifications and provide ISO14001 environmental management system certification.
- Safety Certification: Equipment must pass national inspection standards and be equipped with emergency alarm devices to ensure usage safety.
