Lanzhou Prefabricated Assembly House
The prefabricated assembly house in Lanzhou is an industrialized building system that adapts to the climatic characteristics of northwest China and meets the requirements of green buildings. It has made significant progress in technology, application, and supervision, but still faces some challenges.

I. Technical Characteristics and Advantages
Lanzhou is located in the arid region of northwest China, with a dry climate and large temperature differences, which impose high requirements on building insulation and construction efficiency. Prefabricated integrated houses are produced in factories for components such as walls, floors, and roofs, and are quickly assembled on-site, reducing wet operations and construction waste, and meeting the core requirements of green buildings for energy conservation, land conservation, water conservation, material conservation, and environmental protection. Their technical characteristics include:
- Excellent Thermal Insulation Performance: High-performance insulation materials and thermal break structures are used to enhance the thermal performance of the building envelope, reduce building operational energy consumption, and effectively cope with the cold winter climate.
- Strong Earthquake Resistance and Durability: The structural system often employs light steel or concrete prefabricated frames, which have strong earthquake resistance and durability, adapting to the geological conditions of northwest China.
- High Construction Efficiency: Factory production ensures the accuracy and quality stability of components, reducing human errors; on-site assembly construction shortens the construction period by more than 30% and reduces interference with the surrounding environment.
- Green Manufacturing Synergy: Some enterprises adopt green production modes, with waste recycling rates exceeding 90% and energy consumption lower than the industry average, promoting the coordinated development of green manufacturing and green buildings.
II. Application and Development Status
- Large-Scale Application: In 2026, the prefabricated building industry in Lanzhou entered a critical period for large-scale implementation. The proportion of prefabricated applications in newly started affordable housing, school, and hospital projects stabilized at 83.6%; newly built public building projects in the core area fully implemented mandatory technical guidelines requiring an assembly rate of no less than 50%.
- Project Progress: As of April 2026, a total of 47 prefabricated projects in Lanzhou have been recorded and verified as valid by the China Project Network, of which 29 have started construction and 18 are planned. Some projects, such as the Lanzhou **** Center and the Lanzhou New **** School, have entered critical stages of construction, with clear demands for PC components and integrated bathrooms.
- Procurement Patterns: The procurement rhythm of prefabricated projects in Lanzhou is highly regular. Within 15 working days after the construction drawing review is passed, a procurement notice for components is issued; 45 days before the main structure is capped, professional subcontracting tenders for electromechanical pipelines and prefabricated decorations are initiated.
III. Existing Problems and Supervisory Measures
- Existing Problems: The connection between prefabricated design and preliminary planning as well as actual construction is not close enough; the application of technology is single, with insufficient application scope and quantity; the actual investment in prefabricated construction is relatively low; and on-site safety production management is weak.
- Supervisory Measures: The Municipal Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau promotes the standardized, healthy, and orderly development of prefabricated buildings by strengthening problem rectification, increasing review and inspection efforts, improving policy guidance, and enhancing cross-departmental collaborative supervision mechanisms, striving to increase the proportion of prefabricated buildings in newly built buildings to more than 40% during the 15th Five-Year Plan period.
