Jishishan Container House

Admin September 15, 2026

Jishishan container houses are mainly used for the transitional resettlement of earthquake-affected people after disasters, providing them with safe, warm, and well-equipped living spaces.

I. Construction Background and Purpose

On December 18, 2023, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck Jishishan County, Linxia Prefecture, Gansu Province, causing severe damage to houses near the epicenter. Due to the extremely low winter temperatures in the area, the process of repairing houses and rebuilding damaged ones had to wait until spring. This meant that the affected people would face living issues for at least three months. To address this problem, the local earthquake relief department quickly arranged a large number of container houses as living facilities during the post-disaster reconstruction transition period.

II. House Features and Facilities

The container houses in Jishishan are windproof, warm, and flame-retardant, capable of withstanding the extremely cold weather with temperatures below minus ten degrees Celsius in the area. These houses are 6 meters long, 3 meters wide, and about 2.6 meters high, with doors and windows. They have pre-installed water and electricity pipelines inside and are equipped with multiple power outlets, fluorescent lights, curtains, and other facilities. Some houses are also installed with bathroom facilities and electrical appliances, and can be used immediately after the affected people move in their furniture. In addition, the container houses are equipped with stoves and pipes to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, ensuring the safety and warmth of the affected people.

III. Construction Speed and Scale

With the joint efforts of various rescue forces, the construction of container houses in Jishishan progressed rapidly. For example, Anhui Zeyu donated 200 sets of foldable container houses free of charge and completed the installation of 180 sets in just four days. At the same time, local construction companies quickly dispatched business backbones and equipment and machinery, and rushed to Jishishan County overnight to carry out the construction of fixed transitional resettlement sites after the disaster, planning to build hundreds of container houses.
