Jin Yuan Bao Container House Fire Risk

Admin September 16, 2026

Burning paper offerings such as 'Jin Yuan Bao' near container houses poses a significant fire hazard and should be strictly avoided.

Burning Paper Offerings and Fire Risks

'Jin Yuan Bao', a common offering for ancestor worship, is typically made of tin foil paper and can reach temperatures of 500℃–600℃ when burned. This high temperature is sufficient to ignite many flammable materials, such as paper, wood, and plastic. During festivals like the Cold Clothes Festival, when people often burn paper offerings outdoors, if there are container houses nearby, the burning paper pieces can easily be blown away by the wind and land on flammable parts of the container houses, such as air conditioning units and outdoor weak current boxes, thereby causing fires.

Fire Characteristics of Container Houses

Container houses are constructed using shipping containers as basic structural modules and are transformed into habitable or office buildings after modification. Although their main material is metal, the interior decoration and facilities may contain a large amount of flammable materials, such as insulation materials and electrical cables. Once a fire breaks out, it can spread rapidly, causing significant property damage and casualties. Additionally, container houses are usually located in areas such as construction sites and temporary housing, where the surrounding environment is complex and fire protection facilities may be inadequate, further increasing the difficulty of firefighting.

Real-life Case Warning

On February 6, 2025, a fire broke out in an outdoor container house near Xidawang Road, Chaoyang District, igniting the air conditioning unit and outdoor weak current box and causing direct property damage of nearly 50,000 yuan. After investigation, the fire was caused by a woman named Xu who burned paper offerings for ancestor worship in windy weather, and the burning paper pieces were blown away by the wind, triggering the fire. This case fully illustrates the danger of burning paper offerings near container houses and reminds us to choose safe and appropriate locations for ancestor worship activities, avoiding open flame operations such as burning paper near flammable materials.

Safety Recommendations

To prevent similar fire accidents, it is recommended to choose open areas far away from flammable buildings such as container houses for ancestor worship activities and ensure that there are no flammable materials around. At the same time, necessary firefighting equipment, such as fire extinguishers and buckets, should be equipped to facilitate timely firefighting in the early stages of a fire. In addition, fire safety publicity and education should be strengthened to raise public awareness of fire safety and jointly create a safe and harmonious social environment.
