Is the Container House Cold?

Admin September 15, 2026

Container houses are not necessarily cold; good thermal insulation can be achieved through reasonable design and treatment. Details are as follows:

Selection of Thermal Insulation Materials

The exterior skin of container houses is mostly made of metal materials, which have low specific heat capacity and high heat transfer efficiency. However, the problem of thermal insulation can be solved by selecting appropriate thermal insulation materials. Common thermal insulation materials include polystyrene boards, polyurethane foam boards, rock wool boards, EPS (expanded polystyrene) boards, silicate wool, and foam polystyrene boards. These materials have low thermal conductivity and good thermal insulation properties, effectively blocking heat transfer and improving the thermal insulation performance of the house. For example, in terms of exterior wall insulation, using these materials can effectively prevent heat loss; for interior wall insulation, closed thermal insulation methods can be adopted, using materials such as rock wool and expanded perlite boards for interior wall insulation, or using materials such as plastering, clay walls, and wooden boards for spray insulation.

Design of Thermal Insulation Structure

  • Adding Thermal Insulation Layers: In the design of container houses, thermal insulation layers can be added to the exterior wall surface or interior walls, such as external hanging insulation layers and interior thermal insulation boards, to form an effective thermal insulation barrier, reduce heat transfer, and maintain stable indoor temperatures.
  • Optimizing the Design of Windows and Doors: Unreasonable design can lead to heat leakage and reduce thermal insulation performance. Windows and doors with double- or triple-glazed glass should be selected, which have low thermal conductivity and good thermal insulation properties. At the same time, adding sealing strips to the edges of windows and doors can effectively reduce heat leakage and improve thermal insulation effects.
  • Paying Attention to Detail Handling: Issues such as the splicing and connection of thermal insulation materials, as well as the integration of thermal insulation layers with the container structure, should not be overlooked. At the splicing and connection points of thermal insulation materials, appropriate sealing materials should be used for sealing to prevent heat leakage. The integration points of thermal insulation layers with the container structure should use professional construction methods and materials to ensure sealing and structural stability.

Practical Cases Demonstrating Effects

The national 'Technical Standard for Steel Structure Integrated Houses' clearly requires that the heat transfer coefficient of residential container walls should be ≤0.45W/(㎡·K), which is 1.8 times the thermal insulation efficiency of traditional brick-and-mortar walls. Actual measurements show that in summer, the cabin warms up 22 minutes slower than the outdoors at noon, and in winter, the indoor temperature only drops by 1.3℃ after being closed for 8 hours, providing a more stable body feel.
