Is It Illegal to Modify the Door of a Container House?
Modifying the door of a container house without approval generally constitutes illegal construction behavior.

Legal Basis
According to the provisions of the Urban and Rural Planning Law of the People's Republic of China, for the construction of buildings, structures, roads, pipelines, and other engineering projects within urban and town planning areas, the construction unit or individual shall apply to the urban and rural planning administrative department of the city or county people's government, or the town people's government determined by the people's government of a province, autonomous region, or municipality directly under the Central Government, for a construction project planning permit. If no construction project planning permit is obtained or construction is carried out not in accordance with the provisions of the construction project planning permit, the urban and rural planning administrative department of the local people's government at or above the county level shall order the cessation of construction. If it is possible to take corrective measures to eliminate the impact on the implementation of the plan, a time limit shall be set for correction, and a fine of not less than five percent but not more than ten percent of the construction project cost shall be imposed. If it is impossible to take corrective measures to eliminate the impact, a time limit shall be set for demolition. If demolition is not possible, the physical objects or illegal income shall be confiscated, and a fine of not more than ten percent of the construction project cost may also be imposed.
Analysis of Specific Situations
If a container house is modified into a residential structure without approval, including actions such as door modification to make it suitable for living, it violates the above-mentioned legal provisions. This is because such modifications change the original purpose and structure of the container, turning it into a building with residential functions, which falls within the scope of engineering construction. For example, in a case where a container was modified into a residential structure and placed on a sidewalk, it not only occupied public road resources but also was suspected of illegal construction. After the law enforcement officers interviewed the relevant responsible person, the container was removed as required, indicating that such unapproved modifications are not allowed.
Legal Approach
If there is indeed a need to modify the door or make other modifications to a container house, the construction unit or individual shall apply to the relevant department for a construction project planning permit in accordance with the law. After obtaining the permit, the modifications shall be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the permit to ensure that the modification behavior is legal and compliant.
