Is It Good to Place Mobile Toilets Upstairs?

Admin October 12, 2026

Generally, it is not a good idea to place mobile toilets upstairs, and it is not recommended to do so. The specific reasons are as follows:

Violation of Public Space Usage Regulations

The rooftop terrace belongs to the public space of the residential community, and its use must comply with relevant laws, regulations, and community management rules. Any unauthorized self-built behavior is strictly prohibited. Even though mobile toilets are movable, placing them on the rooftop terrace is also an act of unauthorized occupation of public space. This behavior disrupts the reasonable planning and usage order of the community's public space, infringes upon the legitimate rights and interests of other property owners, and is likely to trigger conflicts and disputes among neighbors.

Existence of Safety Risks

  • Risk of Falling Objects from Heights: If the mobile toilet is improperly placed, for example, close to the edge of the terrace, in the event of strong winds or human collisions, its components or附属设施 (ancillary facilities) may fall from heights. Falling objects from heights pose a great danger and may cause serious injuries and losses to pedestrians and vehicles below, endangering public safety.
  • Risk of Structural Overloading: The design load-bearing capacity of the rooftop terrace is limited, mainly taking into account its own structural weight and normal usage loads, such as human activities and the placement of some lightweight items. However, mobile toilets usually have a certain weight, and when they store sewage and other substances, the weight will further increase. Placing a mobile toilet on the rooftop without professional assessment may lead to structural overloading of the rooftop, affecting the structural safety of the building, shortening its service life, and even potentially triggering serious safety accidents.
