Is It Good to Lay Tiles in Container Houses?
Admin September 17, 2026
There are both advantages and disadvantages to laying tiles in container houses, and the decision should be based on specific needs.

Advantages:
- Aesthetics and Personalization: Tiles come in a rich variety of colors and patterns, allowing for free combination according to the decoration style. This enhances the overall aesthetic appeal of container houses and meets personalized needs.
- Easy Cleaning and Maintenance: The smooth surface of tiles makes them less prone to dust accumulation. Daily cleaning only requires simple wiping, resulting in low maintenance costs and suitability for long-term use scenarios.
- Enhanced Stability: Laying tiles increases the self-weight of the house, lowering the center of gravity and thereby improving wind resistance. This is particularly suitable for areas with strong winds or temporary wind resistance needs.
- Long Service Life: Properly laid, qualified tiles can have a lifespan of 4 to 10 years, or even match the service life of container houses, reducing the hassle of frequent replacements.
Disadvantages:
- Long Construction Period: Tile laying requires initial preparation of the base layer (such as leveling and waterproofing), followed by the application of cement and waiting for it to dry (at least two days). The overall construction period is relatively long, which may affect the rapid commissioning of container houses.
- High Cost: Labor costs account for a significant portion, and the quality of laying depends on the craftsmanship of the workers. Improper construction can easily lead to problems such as hollowing and cracking, increasing rework costs. Additionally, the thin bottom plate of ordinary containers may collapse under the excessive weight of tiles (about 20-30 kg per square meter) when laid directly. Extra base layer preparation (such as cement boards) and waterproofing are required, further increasing costs.
- Limited Applicability: If the container house is only for temporary use (e.g., less than 2 years), the cost of laying tiles (about 200 yuan per square meter) is much higher than that of alternative materials such as plastic flooring, making it less economical.
Comprehensive Recommendations:
- If long-term use, aesthetics, and sufficient budget are pursued, and the area experiences strong winds, laying tiles is a reasonable choice, but it is essential to ensure proper construction and waterproofing.
- For short-term use or limited budgets, it is recommended to choose lightweight, low-cost materials such as plastic flooring to balance functionality and economy.
