Is It Good to Install Sliding Doors in the Toilet?

Admin October 08, 2026

Whether it is appropriate to install sliding doors in the toilet depends on the specific situation. Sliding doors are suitable for small spaces, while swing doors are better for large spaces.

Advantages

  • Space-saving: Sliding doors require space for opening and closing that is concentrated in a single plane, greatly reducing the space requirements in the bathroom. For small-sized bathrooms, swing doors take up a significant amount of space when opened, affecting activities inside the bathroom, whereas sliding doors can make the space layout more reasonable.
  • Good durability: Single-panel sliding doors are simple, convenient, and more durable. Swing doors rely on hinges for support. The doors in bathrooms are usually heavy, and frequent use can easily lead to hinge damage. In comparison, sliding doors have less wear and tear in this regard.

Disadvantages

  • Poor sealing: There are gaps at the tracks. The water vapor from showering and toilet odors can leak out through these gaps. Unlike swing doors, which can be tightly sealed to effectively block water vapor and odors.
  • Difficult cleaning: The tracks are prone to accumulating dirt and grime. Hair strands, toothpaste foam, etc., can fall into them. Over time, this can cause the sliding doors to make squeaking noises when pushed and pulled, and cleaning them is relatively troublesome.
  • Limited installation: The size of the door opening restricts the installation. Single-panel sliding doors are suitable for small spaces, and using two-panel doors is not very practical when the door opening is narrow. When installing sliding doors, the height and width of the wall also need to be considered. A door opening height of less than 1.95 meters can make people feel压抑. The installation of suspended sliding doors has requirements for the height of the track box. Generally, there should be at least 12 centimeters of height at the top, and the height of the bathroom wall should be at least 207 centimeters or more.
  • Quality risks: If the track material is not properly selected, problems such as inflexible opening and closing and noise may occur after long-term use. At the same time, the quality of the pulleys also affects the sliding effect. Poor-quality pulleys may lead to safety hazards such as the sliding doors derailing during the sliding process.

Selection Suggestions

If the bathroom space is large and there is more than 80 centimeters of open space beside the door, considering aspects such as sealing, dust prevention, stability, and enclosure, swing doors are relatively better. If the bathroom area is extremely small and installing a swing door will affect the use of the bathroom space, then sliding doors are the only option.
