Is the Container Mobile House Cold?

Admin September 16, 2026

The temperature conditions of container mobile houses depend on their design, materials, and supporting facilities. Modern optimized container houses can achieve warmth in winter and coolness in summer through thermal insulation treatments and temperature control equipment, while unoptimized original container houses may have issues of being cold in winter and hot in summer.

Temperature Issues of Unoptimized Container Houses

Original container houses are mainly made of metal materials. Metals have low specific heat capacity and high heat transfer efficiency. If no thermal insulation treatment is carried out, in winter, indoor heat will quickly dissipate to the outside through the metal shell, causing the indoor temperature to drop rapidly and making people feel cold. In summer, the high outdoor temperature will quickly transfer to the inside, raising the indoor temperature and making it stuffy. For example, the container houses at the Nagoya Asian Games had limited budgets, were equipped with only one air conditioner, and had insufficient thermal insulation treatment, resulting in poor indoor temperature control. The organizing committee could only suggest that athletes open the doors for pre-cooling and then close them to sleep.

Thermal Insulation Measures for Optimized Container Houses

  • Select appropriate thermal insulation materials: Common thermal insulation materials include polystyrene boards, polyurethane foam boards, and rock wool boards. These materials have low thermal conductivity and good thermal insulation performance, effectively blocking heat transfer and improving the thermal insulation performance of the house.
  • Add thermal insulation layers: Thermal insulation layers can be added to the exterior wall surface or interior walls of the container house, such as external hanging insulation layers and interior thermal insulation boards, forming a thermal insulation barrier, reducing heat transfer, and maintaining a stable indoor temperature.
  • Optimize the design of windows and doors: Use double-glazed or triple-glazed windows, which have low thermal conductivity and good thermal insulation performance. Install sealing strips at the edges of windows and doors to reduce heat leakage and improve thermal insulation effects.
  • Pay attention to the details of the thermal insulation system: At the joints of thermal insulation materials, connection parts, and the junctions between the thermal insulation layer and the container structure, use appropriate sealing materials for sealing to ensure airtightness and structural stability.

Temperature Control Equipment for Optimized Container Houses

In addition to thermal insulation treatments, temperature control equipment such as air conditioners, entrance air curtains, and graphene floor heating can be added to regulate the indoor temperature and further improve the living experience in terms of temperature. For example, some optimized container homestays have thick rock wool thermal insulation layers inside. In winter, the indoor temperature can be maintained above 18°C, and in summer, through reasonable ventilation design, a cool environment can also be maintained.
