Investment in Container House Processing Plants
Admin September 17, 2026
The investment cost for container house processing plants generally ranges from 50 million to over 1 billion RMB, depending on factors such as plant size, automation level, geographical location, and product type. The following analysis is conducted from two perspectives: scale division and cost composition.

I. Investment Costs by Scale
- Small-scale Plants: With an annual production capacity of 10,000 to 30,000 TEUs, the total investment ranges from 50 million to 150 million RMB, suitable for regional markets. These plants prioritize flexibility and localized services, with relatively smaller equipment configurations and plant sizes, resulting in lower initial investments.
- Medium-scale Plants: With an annual production capacity of 50,000 to 100,000 TEUs, the total investment ranges from 200 million to 400 million RMB, suitable for national supply or export-oriented operations. Expanding production scale and enhancing automation levels are necessary, leading to significant increases in equipment procurement and plant construction costs. Additionally, more working capital needs to be reserved to cope with order fluctuations.
- Large-scale Plants: With an annual production capacity of 150,000 to 300,000 TEUs, the total investment exceeds 500 million to 1 billion RMB, suitable for international market competition. These plants require fully automated production lines, large-scale warehousing facilities, and international logistics systems. Investment costs cover high-end equipment, technology research and development, and global market expansion expenses.
II. Composition of Investment Costs
Infrastructure Expenses:
- Plant Rental: Small and medium-sized plants require 800 to 1,500 square meters of operating space, with monthly rent in second-tier cities ranging from 30,000 to 50,000 RMB, resulting in annual expenditures of 360,000 to 600,000 RMB.
- Equipment Procurement: Cutting machines (80,000 to 150,000 RMB per unit), welding equipment (50,000 to 80,000 RMB per set), and sandblasting machines (120,000 to 200,000 RMB per set), with a total investment in basic production lines ranging from 900,000 to 1.5 million RMB.
- Environmental Protection Facilities: Ventilation and dust removal systems, as well as fire protection equipment, cost approximately 150,000 to 250,000 RMB to meet environmental regulations.
Production and Operation Expenses:
- Raw Material Procurement: The cost of standard 20-foot container panels ranges from 8,000 to 12,000 RMB per unit. Raw materials account for a significant proportion of production costs, necessitating the establishment of a stable supply chain.
- Labor Costs: Skilled workers earn approximately 6,000 to 8,000 RMB per month, with monthly expenditures for a 10-person team ranging from 60,000 to 80,000 RMB. Skills training and personnel stability need to be considered.
- Working Capital: It is advisable to reserve three months' worth of operating funds, approximately 500,000 to 800,000 RMB, to cope with capital turnover needs such as raw material procurement and order fulfillment.
Hidden Expenses:
- Qualification Certifications: Expenses for ISO certification and special equipment registration range from 50,000 to 80,000 RMB, which are necessary conditions for entering the market.
- Transportation Vehicles: The procurement cost of second-hand trucks ranges from 100,000 to 150,000 RMB, used for raw material transportation and finished product distribution.
