Hunan Mobile Toilet Upgrade and Renovation
The upgrade and renovation of mobile toilets in Hunan are mainly reflected in the expansion of application scenarios, intelligent upgrades, quality improvements of toilet facilities in highway service areas and scenic spots, and the renovation of old public toilets.

In terms of application scenarios, traditional scenic spots and exhibitions remain the main demand. For example, in 2024, more than 200 mobile toilets were added to key scenic spots such as Orange Isle in Changsha and Tianmen Mountain in Zhangjiajie for emergency use during peak tourist flows. Emerging scenarios are accelerating their penetration. In rural tourism projects, mobile toilets have become a standard配套 (standard配套 can be translated as 'standard feature' or 'standard component' in this context, here we use 'standard feature' for better flow) of homestay clusters. In the field of municipal engineering, the usage rate at temporary work sites such as subway construction and road repairs has increased by 45% year-on-year. The supporting facilities for 'fangcang hospitals' developed during the pandemic have also been included in the scope of industrial services.
Regarding intelligent upgrades, the industry is transforming from basic equipment to smart solutions. Some companies have launched mobile toilets with Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities, which can monitor usage status in real-time and automatically alert for shortages of toilet paper or water through an app. The proportion of environmentally friendly products using solar power and biodegradation technology has increased to 68%, a 22 percentage point increase from 2023. In 2025, the Hunan Provincial Mobile Toilet Industry Standardization Technical Committee was established to promote the formulation of eight local standards, including product dimensions and environmental protection standards.
For the quality improvement of toilet facilities in highway service areas, before the renovation, sit-down toilets accounted for only 8.7%. The renovation relied on the existing toilet layout, standardized and upgraded the original squat toilets, uniformly replaced them with high-quality standard sit-down toilets, and expanded the number of sit-down toilets. At the same time, humanized facilities such as safety handrails, mobile phone holders, and tissue paper holders were added. The ventilation and lighting systems of the toilets were also upgraded, and the daily cleaning and maintenance mechanisms were optimized.
In terms of the quality improvement of toilet facilities in scenic spots, for example, after the renovation, the toilet in the corridor of Yuelu Mountain opened with a new smart and eco-friendly image. It has 12 female toilet stalls and 13 male toilet stalls, equipped with standardized third toilets and independent washing areas. Inside, it uses anti-slip vacuum stone, automatic sensor faucets, and other facilities. Three systems, namely aromatherapy, air curtain fresh air, and negative pressure exhaust, are installed to solve odor and humidity problems. Lighting, exhaust, etc., are remotely controlled from the background, and the smart system can monitor environmental data and analyze foot traffic. For the renovation of old public toilets, for example, since September last year, Shuangqing District in Shaoyang City has been comprehensively promoting the public toilet renovation project and has completed the upgrade and renovation of 140 old public toilets.
