Huizhou Mobile Public Toilets

Admin September 28, 2026

Huizhou has implemented measures such as 'tide toilets', 24-hour operation of some sanitation public toilets, and public toilet upgrades and renovations.

'Tide Toilets': Guangdong Huizhou West Lake Scenic Area once introduced 'tide toilets', where the male and female signs at the entrance can be manually adjusted. These toilets are accessed through the men's entrance, with the rightmost section being the regular men's toilet. The middle section is separated by an iron gate; when the gate is closed, the area inside becomes the 'women's toilet', and when opened, it becomes part of the men's toilet. However, the iron gate has no lock and is unattended, and the signs can be adjusted at will. The initial intention behind introducing 'tide toilets' in the scenic area was to address the long queues of women waiting to use the toilet during major holidays, representing a 'micro-innovation management attempt'. However, this measure raised concerns among netizens. Facing public pressure, all adjustable signs involved were removed. On September 16, the scenic area replaced them with fixed slot-type signs installed at the top of toilet doors and stated that staff would be assigned to oversee them.

24-Hour Operation of Some Sanitation Public Toilets: Since September 25, 2024, 19 sanitation public toilets in the central area of Huicheng have officially been open 24 hours a day, covering areas such as Jiangbei and Jiangnan, including mobile public toilets at the Convention and Exhibition Center and public toilets at the Bidao驿站 (Bidao Post Station). This measure provides more convenient toilet services for citizens and tourists, especially at night, meeting people's practical needs.

Public Toilet Upgrades and Renovations: The Huizhou Municipal Environmental Sanitation Affairs Center has carried out comprehensive upgrades and renovations on 18 public toilets in the central area of Huicheng, focusing on appearance, facilities, and air purification. After renovation, toilets like Longfeng Park Public Toilet have upgraded their toilet stalls with smart sensor flushing equipment, equipped with usage status indicator modules, and installed deodorizers, significantly improving the user experience and hygiene standards of the public toilets. Currently, six public toilets have been completed and put into use before National Day, with the remaining 12 planned to be completed by May next year.
