Hui-style Container House

Admin September 14, 2026

The Hui-style container house is a distinctive architectural form that combines the architectural style of Hui-style buildings with the structural characteristics of modern containers. There are already relevant practical cases, such as the Huangshan Mosu·Xiangju container luxury homestay.

Design Features of Hui-style Container Houses

  • Style Integration: It combines Hui-style architectural elements with the industrial style of containers. For example, in the container renovation of Huangshan Mosu·Xiangju, the poetic and idyllic dream of the Chinese core is retained, and the gentle and elegant charm of Hui culture is integrated under the “hardcore” industrial metal shell.
  • Spatial Layout: Drawing on the layout of Hui-style folk houses centered around a courtyard, with halls, bedrooms, studies, and wing rooms arranged around the courtyard, a reasonable plan is made within the container house. At the same time, considering the characteristics of the container structure, the space is optimized to ensure it is neither crowded nor fails to meet the needs of different guests.
  • Decorative Elements: Common decorative elements of Hui-style buildings, such as wood carvings on doors, windows, beams, brackets, partition fans, and hanging eaves, featuring flowers, birds, figures, opera stories, and auspicious patterns, are used to decorate the interior or exterior of the container house, adding a cultural atmosphere.

Practical Application Cases

  • Huangshan Mosu·Xiangju: Using 46 specially customized containers, 26 panoramic guest rooms were built in a mountain valley covering more than 8,000 square meters. The container-renovated suites are built facing the water, and the transparent floor-to-ceiling window design turns the entire room into a viewing platform. The homestay also combines local customs and provides special tourism experience activities such as research studies, grass and wood tie-dyeing, and tea picking.

References in Construction and Transportation

  • From the relocation case of the Yin Yutang building, it can be seen that if Hui-style buildings are transported in the form of containers, the demolition will take a certain amount of time, and all components need to be carefully disassembled, labeled, and packed. The demolition of Yin Yutang took more than four months and was packed into 19 containers. During reconstruction, professional personnel need to be invited to measure the components, and old components need to be reprocessed. The restoration process is relatively complex.
