How to Use Portable Toilets

Admin September 27, 2026

The way to use portable toilets varies depending on their specific type and design, but generally, the following common steps and precautions can be followed:

I. Preparation Before Use

  1. Confirm Installation and Connection For portable toilets that require installation (such as portable restrooms with water storage tanks), check whether the internal components (toilet bowl, water tank, drain pipe, etc.) have been properly installed and connected. Ensure that the water level in the storage tank is sufficient (if it is a water-flush type) or confirm that the fecal storage tank of a non-water-flush toilet has been emptied and placed in position.
  2. Check Structural Stability If it is a single-unit or composite-structure portable toilet, make sure that the ground where it is placed is level to avoid inconvenience in use or safety hazards due to tilting. For powered or towed portable toilets, check whether the power system (such as batteries or engines) is functioning normally and whether the towing connection is secure.

II. Operations During Use

  1. Choose the Usage Mode Some portable toilets are designed with user-friendliness in mind and offer two options: a seat cushion with a sitting toilet or a squatting toilet. Users can adjust the position of the seat cushion or switch modes according to their needs. For example, after closing the door, complete the mode switch by rotating the seat cushion or pressing the switch button.
  2. Follow the Sewage Treatment Logic
    • Water-flush type: After use, press the flush button to ensure that the sewage flows into the water storage tank or the municipal sewage system (if connected) through the drain pipe.
    • Non-water-flush suction type: After use, there is no need to flush. The feces directly enter the fecal storage tank, which needs to be regularly suctioned and cleaned by special vehicles.
    • Recirculating water-flush type: The sewage is treated and then recirculated for use. It is necessary to conserve water and avoid clogging the filtration system with impurities.

III. Maintenance After Use

  1. Cleaning and Disinfection After use, wipe the seat ring, the inner wall of the toilet bowl, and other contact areas with tissue paper or a special cleaning agent to reduce bacterial growth. Some portable toilets are equipped with an automatic disinfection function, which can be operated according to the instructions.
  2. Close and Secure After use, close the door lock to prevent the spread of odors. If it is a movable type (such as a lifting or handling type), make sure that all components are back in place and secured to prevent damage during transportation.

IV. Precautions for Special Types

  1. Powered Portable Toilets: Before use, check the battery level or fuel level to avoid mid-use shutdowns.
  2. High-altitude or Extreme Environments: Choose appropriate sewage treatment technologies (such as anti-freezing water tanks) to ensure the normal operation of the system.

The core differences among different types of portable toilets lie in their sewage treatment methods and mobility mechanisms. Before use, be sure to read the instructions or consult the supplier to ensure proper and safe operation.
