How to Train a Teddy to Use a Mobile Toilet

Admin October 11, 2026

Training a Teddy to use a mobile toilet can be achieved through the following steps:

  1. Prepare the mobile toilet and attractants
Choose a dog toilet that suits the Teddy's size. For example, a one-month-old puppy can use a small grid-type toilet with a drip tray (approximately 30cm×40cm) for easy cleaning. Spray the toilet surface with the attractant provided by the seller or place the Teddy's previous feces or urine to establish recognition of the elimination area using its olfactory dependence. Odor guidance is crucial; ensure that the toilet retains familiar odors for the Teddy.

  2. Fix the toilet location
Place the mobile toilet in a quiet, low-disturbance area, such as near the bathroom door or in a corner of the balcony, away from food bowls, dog beds, and high-traffic areas. Avoid locations like the center of the living room, bedroom, or next to the food bowl to reduce external interference and lower the likelihood of the Teddy refusing to eliminate due to nervousness. Location stability is essential; frequent movement of the toilet can disrupt the Teddy's elimination habits.

  3. Identify and guide elimination timing
Teddies have regular elimination patterns: they are likely to need to eliminate 15-20 minutes after drinking water, 30 minutes after eating, and within 5 minutes of waking up. Observe for pre-elimination behaviors such as circling in place, sniffing the ground, or lowering the tail, and immediately carry the Teddy to the mobile toilet, gently press its front paws to make it stand, and repeat simple commands like "go to the toilet" or "pee here" simultaneously. Timing judgment should combine behavioral observation with time patterns to avoid forcing the Teddy, which can lead to resistance.

  4. Be patient and reward immediately
After placing the Teddy on the toilet, the owner should remain quiet and wait for 1-2 minutes. If elimination does not occur, carry the Teddy back to the activity area for further observation and try again after 10 minutes. Provide dual rewards within 1-2 seconds of successful elimination: first, offer verbal praise (such as "good dog" or "good boy") and pat the top of its head, then feed a high-value treat (such as chicken jerky). The timeliness of rewards can reinforce the Teddy's memory of correct behavior.

  5. Clean up and deodorize promptly
If the Teddy eliminates in the wrong location, immediately clean up the feces and use a pet-specific deodorizer to thoroughly eliminate odors. Residual odors can attract the Teddy to repeat elimination, leading to training failure. Avoid using cleaning agents containing ammonia during cleaning, as such odors may be mistaken by the Teddy for peer markings and exacerbate the problem.

Training Cycle and Precautions:

  • For puppy training, repeat the process 3-5 times daily for 1-2 weeks to establish a conditioned reflex.
  • Avoid punishing incorrect behavior during training, as it can trigger anxiety, leading to food refusal or aggression.
  • If the Teddy resists the mobile toilet, temporarily place its favorite toys or a mat inside the toilet to reduce resistance.
