How to Set Up Mobile Toilets for Homestays

Admin October 22, 2026

The setup of mobile toilets for homestays can refer to the customization of single-person mobile toilets and the installation methods of portable toilets, which need to be completed by combining demand adaptation, standardized installation processes, or simple production plans.

Clarify Demands and Scene Adaptation

  • Size and Space: The interior height should be ≥1.8 meters to ensure that users do not touch the top with their knees when squatting or sitting, avoiding a cramped feeling.
  • Material Selection: Metal sheets (such as stainless steel) are highly durable and suitable for long-term use; plastic materials are rust-resistant and have lower costs, but attention should be paid to their weather resistance; composite materials (such as fiberglass-reinforced plastic) combine lightweight properties with strength, and can be weighed based on budget and usage scenarios.
  • Functional Configuration: Basic configurations should include a toilet, a toilet paper holder, and handrails; upgrade options can include adding a flushing system (such as foot-operated or sensor-operated), an activated carbon deodorization device, or a solar-powered ventilation fan to enhance the user experience. If the homestay is located in a scenic area or nature reserve, it is recommended to use biodegradable materials (such as biodegradable plastics) and equip it with a composting waste treatment system to reduce environmental pollution, while designing the appearance to blend into the natural landscape and reduce visual intrusion.

Standardized Installation Process

  • Preliminary Preparation: Select a flat area with good drainage and away from water source pollution to avoid waterlogging during the rainy season or sewage backflow; check the firmness of the ground to prevent equipment settlement; if installing in a public place or scenic area, go through the approval procedures in advance.
  • Transportation and Unloading: Use dedicated vehicles for transportation and secure the equipment to prevent shaking; upon arrival at the site, confirm the ground bearing capacity and carefully unload the equipment using a forklift or manual labor to avoid collision damage.
  • Installation and Debugging: Place the toilet steadily and fix it with expansion screws or counterweights to prevent displacement; connect the drainage pipe to the municipal sewer network or septic tank, and connect to a temporary power supply or equip with a generator; test whether the lighting, flushing system, and ventilation equipment are functioning properly, check the door locks and window and door sealing, and replenish toilet paper, hand soap, and other consumables.

Simple Production Plan (Suitable for Users with Strong Hands-on Skills)

  • Basic Structure: Dig a toilet waterway and connect it to the sewer to ensure smooth drainage; build four pillars as a frame, enclose the walls with tiles or waterproof sheets, and lay anti-slip floor tiles on the ground to prevent slipping.
  • Creative Design: Refer to the idea of children's toy toilets to make a toilet lid that can be opened and closed (fixed with metal hinges) and a hidden storage cabinet (for storing cleaning tools), but ensure there are no sanitary dead spots and the structure is stable; if adding a flushing system, reserve a space for the water tank and connect the water pipe.
