How to Replace the Toilet in a Portable Toilet
Admin October 19, 2026
Replacing the toilet in a portable toilet mainly involves two scenarios: replacing the toilet seat and installing a new toilet as a whole. Here are the specific methods:

Replacing the Toilet Seat
- Locate the screw caps: The positions of the screw caps vary, with some being visible and others hidden. Hidden screw caps are usually located on the side of the toilet tank inside the toilet, near the edge of the tank. Open the toilet seat, reach in with your hand, and feel upwards towards the tank to find them.
- Remove the old toilet seat: Use a Phillips screwdriver and an adjustable wrench to remove the old toilet seat. There are two screws at the bottom of the toilet seat. Reach behind the toilet and unscrew them with the screwdriver. If the screws are rusty and difficult to turn, spray WD - 40 on them and wait for 3 minutes before trying again.
- Install the new toilet seat: After removing the old toilet seat, clean the mounting holes on the top of the toilet. Place the gasket of the new toilet seat in the correct position, insert the screws through the holes in the toilet seat, and then put the nuts on from the bottom of the toilet. Tighten them gently at first, adjust the position to make it straight, and then use the wrench to tighten the nuts firmly, being careful not to over-tighten. If it is a smart toilet seat, turn off the water valve next to the toilet first, connect the water inlet pipe, and wrap it with Teflon tape.
Installing a New Toilet as a Whole
- Prepare tools: Prepare tools such as a screwdriver, an adjustable wrench, silicone sealant, a sealing ring, and Teflon tape.
- Remove the old toilet: If replacing an old toilet, first turn off the water valve behind the toilet, empty the water in the tank, remove the water inlet pipe, and use the wrench to unscrew the fixing screws at the bottom of the toilet. Two people should lift the old toilet together, being careful not to damage the drain outlet and spill sewage.
- Clean the floor: After removing the old toilet, clean up dirt and silicone sealant on the floor, especially around the drain outlet.
- Install the new toilet: Put the new sealing ring (the flange ring at the bottom of the toilet) over the drain outlet and tighten it. Align the new toilet with the drain outlet and slowly lower it, making sure it is straight and aligned front-to-back and side-to-side. Adjust the level of the toilet. If it wobbles, place shims under the bottom of the toilet until it is stable. After the level is adjusted, fix the toilet with screws.
