How to Replace the Bag in a Portable Toilet

Admin September 28, 2026

The process of replacing the bag in a portable toilet may vary depending on the model and design, but generally, the following general steps can be followed:

Preparation

First, prepare a dedicated garbage bag that fits the portable toilet. Its size and material should meet the equipment requirements to ensure sealing and load-bearing capacity. At the same time, wear disposable gloves to avoid direct contact with excrement and ensure operational hygiene. If the portable toilet is equipped with cleaning tools (such as disinfectant spray, cloth), they should also be prepared in advance for cleaning and disinfection after replacement.

Turn Off and Lock the Equipment

Some portable toilets are equipped with locking devices. Before replacing the bag, turn off the equipment's power or lock the door to prevent others from misusing it or the equipment from starting accidentally. For electric portable toilets, cut off the power supply; for manual ones, fix the door with a mechanical lock to ensure a safe operating environment.

Remove the Old Garbage Bag

Open the garbage collection bin of the portable toilet (usually located at the bottom or side), and carefully remove the used garbage bag. If there is a large amount of excrement in the bag, lift it slowly to avoid liquid spillage. If the bag adheres to the bin, gently tear off the fixing tape or buckle. Do not pull hard to avoid damage.

Clean the Collection Bin

After removing the old bag, spray the inside of the collection bin with disinfectant spray or cleaner, focusing on cleaning the corners and residual stains. Wipe it clean with a cloth to ensure no odor or bacteria growth. If the bin has a drain, open it for flushing to speed up the cleaning process.

Install the New Garbage Bag

Unfold the new garbage bag and ensure the bag opening is flat and wrinkle-free. According to the equipment design, fix the bag opening on the buckles, tapes, or dedicated fixing rings of the collection bin to ensure a tight seal and prevent excrement leakage. Some portable toilets require the bag opening to be turned inside out to cover the edge of the bin, forming double protection.

Restore Equipment Use

After installation, close the door of the garbage collection bin, unlock the equipment, or restore the power supply. Check if the garbage bag is firmly fixed and gently press it to test its stability. If the equipment has indicator lights or a display screen, confirm that there are no abnormal prompts before normal use.

Subsequent Disposal

Seal the old garbage bag and dispose of it in the designated trash can according to local garbage classification requirements. If the portable toilet is used in public places, regularly check the capacity of the garbage bag to avoid overflow and affect the user experience.
