How to Rent a Residential Container House

Admin September 17, 2026

There are various ways to rent residential container houses, and you can choose from direct contact with manufacturers, long-term/short-term/shared/customized rentals, etc., based on your needs, while also paying attention to deposit and freight issues.

I. Rental Channels

  1. Direct Contact with Manufacturers or Through Agents Directly contacting container house manufacturers is an efficient way to communicate your needs in detail (such as size, configuration, functions, etc.), select the appropriate type of house, and clarify the details of the rental contract (such as price, duration, maintenance responsibilities, etc.). Some manufacturers offer one-stop services, including design, transportation, installation, and after-sales support. If renting through a real estate agency, confirm whether the agency has the qualifications for renting container houses and verify the authenticity of the property listings.

  2. Long-term Rental Suitable for people who need stable accommodation (such as students, workers, project teams, etc.), with rental periods typically lasting one year or longer. The unit price for long-term rentals is lower, but a formal contract must be signed to clarify terms such as rent payment methods and liability for breach of contract. Some manufacturers offer rent discounts or free maintenance services for long-term tenants.

  3. Short-term Rental Suitable for temporary housing needs (such as travelers, temporary workers, exhibition events, etc.), with rental periods ranging from a few days to a few months. Short-term rentals have higher rents but do not require long-term contracts, offering high flexibility. Tenants need to confirm the house delivery and return process in advance to avoid additional charges for overdue stays.

  4. Shared Rental Multiple people share a container house, splitting rent and utility costs, suitable for people with limited budgets (such as students, young workers). Shared rentals require prior negotiation of rules for space allocation, hygiene maintenance, etc., and a written agreement should be signed to clarify the rights and obligations of each party.

  5. Customized Rental Design container houses according to personalized needs (such as adding partitions, special decorations, functional modules, etc.), suitable for artists, entrepreneurs, or people with special requirements for their living environment. Customized rentals have higher rents but can meet unique needs. It is necessary to clarify design drawings, material standards, and acceptance processes with the manufacturer.

II. Cost Considerations

  1. Deposit A deposit equivalent to one month's rent is usually required when renting to ensure the integrity of the house and equipment. Upon return of the house, if there is no damage and all fees are settled, the deposit will be refunded in full; if there is damage or outstanding fees, the manufacturer has the right to deduct the corresponding amount from the deposit.

  2. Freight The freight is borne by the tenant, and the amount depends on the distance between the rental location and the manufacturer, transportation difficulties (such as whether lifting is required), etc. Some manufacturers offer door-to-door delivery services and charge fees. Tenants can compare quotes from multiple providers to choose a cost-effective option.
