How to Prevent Container Houses from Leaking

Admin September 17, 2026

To ensure that container houses do not leak, comprehensive control must be exercised in terms of design, construction, materials, and maintenance.

Architectural Waterproof Design

During the design phase of container houses, full consideration must be given to waterproofing needs. The roof and walls should be equipped with waterproof layers, and high-quality waterproof materials such as waterproof membranes and coatings should be selected. These materials can effectively prevent rainwater from infiltrating the interior of the building. For example, the roof of Zeyu foldable container houses adopts a 2.5-centimeter-high bending design, which not only ensures smooth drainage but also possesses characteristics such as rust resistance and water leakage prevention, providing a guarantee for waterproofing from a structural design perspective.

Improve Drainage System

A reasonable drainage system is key to preventing water leakage. The roof should be equipped with appropriate drainage facilities, such as drainage slopes, gutters, and downspouts, to ensure that rainwater can be quickly and smoothly discharged, avoiding water accumulation. Water accumulation not only increases the load on the roof but may also cause damage to the waterproof layer due to long-term soaking, leading to water leakage problems.

Ensure Sealing Performance

The connection parts of container houses, such as the joints between container bodies and the seams between doors, windows, and walls, are weak points prone to water leakage. During the design and construction process, effective sealing measures should be taken, such as using sealing strips and sealants. For container gaps, appropriate sealants can be selected according to different needs. Butyl sealant adheres firmly to metals, glass, and concrete, has a wide temperature resistance range, and does not crack after 20 years of exposure to wind and sun, making it suitable for containers placed outdoors for a long time. Neoprene sealant can be squeezed out for immediate leak repair, making it a good choice for urgent situations. Some can also be painted over for aesthetic repairs, suitable for occasions requiring a neat appearance. MS sealant has good elasticity and can be stretched up to four times its original length, making it suitable for dynamic gaps as it will not crack even if the container shakes. Do not touch the sealant within 24 hours after application to avoid affecting the sealing effect.

Consider Water Resistance of Disassembly and Assembly Structures

Container houses may undergo multiple disassemblies and assemblies, so material selection and structural design should take into account the impact of long-term use and multiple disassemblies and assemblies. Select corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant materials to ensure that the structure is not damaged during the disassembly and assembly process and maintains good water resistance to ensure the rainproof performance of the house in heavy rain weather.

Regular Inspection and Maintenance

Regularly inspect the waterproof layer and drainage system of foldable container houses for damage, aging, etc. Promptly identify and repair potential water leakage problems, such as replacing damaged waterproof materials and cleaning drainage pipes, to prevent water leakage problems from expanding further.

Add Additional Waterproof Measures

During the design and construction process, additional waterproof measures can also be taken to improve rainproof performance. For example, adding waterproof membranes or coatings to the roof and walls can enhance the waterproofing effect.
