How to Move the Toilet Seat Cover

Admin October 12, 2026

Moving the toilet seat cover requires selecting the appropriate method based on the type of slot, with the core steps being checking the type, loosening the fixed points, and repositioning and installing.

1. Screw-Fixed Slots (Common in Metal Materials)

  1. Loosen the Screws: Use a screwdriver to turn the fixed screws on both sides of the slot counterclockwise to loosen them. If the screws are covered by plastic caps, use a flat-head tool to gently pry open the caps to expose the screws. Note to retain 1/3 of the screw length to avoid difficulty in positioning if fully unscrewed.
  2. Adjust the Position: Push the entire slot upward to the target position, ensuring it aligns with the edge of the toilet. If the range of movement is limited, it may be due to obstruction by a ceramic protrusion at the back. Place a thin silicone pad (1-2mm thick) on the contact surface of the slot to improve fit.
  3. Refasten: After confirming the position, use a screwdriver to turn the screws clockwise to tighten them, ensuring the cover plate is stable and does not wobble. If the metal slot is rusted, apply a neutral lubricant (such as WD-40) and let it sit for 15 minutes before operating.

2. Snap-Button Slots (Common in Plastic Materials)

  1. Release the Snap Buttons: Wear rubber gloves to increase friction and press the release button at the front of the slot with your thumb (some models may require simultaneously pulling the slot outward slightly to unlock it).
  2. Move the Slot: While maintaining pressure on the button, push the entire slot upward to the target position. If the slot gets stuck, gently shake it left and right to assist in movement, but avoid using excessive force that could cause breakage.
  3. Test Stability: After moving, gently press the cover plate up and down to check for wobbling. If wobbling is noticeable, readjust the position of the slot or check if the snap buttons are fully locked.

3. Special Type: Quick-Release Slots (e.g., TOTO Washlet Series)

These slots use an internal spring mechanism and need to be vertically aligned with the base guide slots before pressing to lock. Simple displacement may not be compatible, so refer to the instruction manual to confirm if height adjustment is supported. If adjustment is needed, typically press the unlock buttons on both sides of the base, lift the entire cover plate, and reinstall it at the target position.

Precautions

  • Turn off the water supply to the toilet (for smart toilet seats) before operating to avoid moisture damage to the electrical circuit.
  • Test the stability in both directions after moving to ensure safe use.
  • If the slot is aged or damaged, it is recommended to replace it with a matching model to avoid forced operation that could damage the edge of the toilet.
