How to Move the Toilet Freely
Admin September 21, 2026
The method for freely moving a toilet depends on its type. There are significant differences in the renovation methods between traditional fixed toilets and movable restrooms, and a comprehensive decision should be made based on actual needs, costs, and construction conditions.

Renovation Methods for Traditional Fixed Toilets (Toilets)
- Toilet Displacement Device Method: Suitable for short-distance adjustments (15-40 cm), this method involves installing a displacement device to change the position of the toilet's drainage outlet. It is crucial to strictly maintain a pipe slope of 3%; otherwise, poor drainage or blockages may occur. This method is low-cost and simple to construct but has limited displacement distance.
- Floor Elevation Method: When the pipes need to be moved more than 15 cm, the new pipes can be hidden by raising the bathroom floor. Note that a reduction in ceiling height may affect the sense of space, and there are safety hazards for the elderly and children, necessitating the installation of anti-slip facilities.
- Wall-Hung Toilet: The drainage outlet is relocated to the wall, requiring the pre-installation of a water tank pipe within the wall. Suitable for users pursuing a minimalist style, but the cost is relatively high (over 10,000 yuan), and an inspection port needs to be reserved.
- Downstairs Pipe Renovation: If the downstairs neighbor has not yet renovated, it is possible to negotiate the renovation of the pipes within their ceiling. Three conditions must be met: neighbor consent, property approval, and proper waterproofing; otherwise, it may lead to neighbor disputes.
- Same-Floor Drainage Solution: There are two types: elevation (adding height to the floor, akin to wearing 'insoles') and depression (a privilege of sunken bathrooms). This method involves the most construction work but offers the highest flexibility, allowing free adjustment of the toilet position; however, it requires damaging the original floor structure.
Renovation Methods for Movable Restrooms
- Modular Design: Integrate pipes and drainage systems into functional units that can be moved as a whole. Compliant with the 'Movable Restrooms' (CJ/T 381-2011) standard, facilitating rapid deployment and disassembly.
- Moving Devices:
- Wheeled Chassis: Equipped with heavy-duty universal or directional wheels (wheel diameter 200-400 mm), each wheel can bear 300-500 kg. They can be manually or slightly moved on hardened surfaces, and high-end models support vehicle towing.
- Lifting and Forklift Interfaces: Forklift slots or lifting rings are reserved, allowing a 15-ton forklift to move a standard-sized (1.2m×1.2m×2.3m) restroom.
- Quick Connection System: Standardized quick-connect fittings are used to connect the drainage/water supply systems. Self-contained restrooms have a bottom sewage tank with a capacity of 200-400 liters, equipped with a trolley-style drainage outlet, suitable for scenarios without sewage pipes.
- Fixing and Leveling: Fixed using adjustable anchor bolts (adjustment range 50-100 mm) or expansion bolts and screw piles (300-600 mm), preventing tipping during movement.
Precautions
- For traditional toilet displacement, prioritize same-floor drainage, use a displacement device for short distances, and consider floor elevation or wall-hung toilets for long distances.
- Before moving a movable restroom, clear obstacles and ensure the ground bearing capacity is ≥5 tons/square meter. Control the movement speed (manual ≤5 km/h, forklift lifting ≤0.3 m/s).
