How to Move Container Houses

Admin September 15, 2026

Moving container houses requires selecting methods such as lifting, roll-on/roll-off, or specialized equipment assistance based on their structural characteristics, transportation distance, and site conditions, while paying attention to structural stability and operational specifications.

1. Lifting Method

This method is suitable for specialized container terminals or sites equipped with lifting equipment. Container houses are lifted and transferred as a whole onto transportation vehicles (such as trucks or ships) using equipment like quayside container cranes, rubber-tired gantry cranes, or rail-mounted gantry cranes. This approach is efficient but requires ensuring that the rated load capacity of the lifting equipment meets the weight of the container house (usually requiring over 15,000 pounds). Additionally, operators must be certified. If the house is internally decorated or contains many fixed installations, reinforcement is necessary in advance to prevent damage during lifting.

2. Roll-On/Roll-Off Method

For long-distance transportation or scenarios without lifting equipment, container houses can be secured onto chassis trailers and loaded into ship holds via ramps using towing vehicles or transported directly to the destination. This method eliminates the need for lifting but requires checking the stability of the connection between the trailer and the container and ensuring that the transportation route has no height or width restrictions (such as tunnels or bridges). If the house is large, container specifications conforming to international standards (such as 20-foot or 40-foot) should be selected to fit the trailer.

3. Specialized Equipment Assistance

For short-distance moving needs in factories or yards, container-specific casters can be used. These devices support the corner fittings of the container with thickened high-strength steel and are equipped with heavy-duty polyurethane wheels, enabling原地转向 (原地转向 can be translated as 'in-place steering' or 'zero-radius turning' for better understanding in English, but keeping the original term here for context), precise positioning, and a built-in brake lock mechanism to prevent sliding. This method is cost-effective and simple to operate but is only suitable for empty containers or those without internal decoration, and requires a flat surface (such as concrete or epoxy flooring).

4. Special Handling for Foldable Container Houses

If the container house is of a foldable structure (such as a dual-wing foldable expansion design), ensure that the folded dimensions comply with standard shipping container specifications (such as an internal length of 5.89 meters and width of 2.35 meters for a 20-foot container). Check the stability of hinges, tracks, and other components to withstand maritime颠簸 (颠簸 can be translated as 'turbulence' or 'jolting', but 'rough seas' might convey the context better; however, keeping 'turbulence' here for directness). Before transportation, complete pre-installation of structures, insulation, utilities, etc., at the factory and secure all movable parts to prevent loosening during transit.
