How to Make Wood Grain for Prefabricated Houses

Admin September 19, 2026

The creation of wood grain for prefabricated houses can be achieved through methods such as physical processing, chemical treatment, artistic painting, and wood grain paint application, with wood grain paint application being the most commonly used. The specific steps are as follows:

Steps for Wood Grain Paint Application

  1. Base Layer Treatment
Thoroughly inspect the flatness of the base surface, focusing on identifying defects such as cracks and holes. Fill these defects with cement mortar, then use 120-grit sandpaper or a polishing machine to finely polish the surface until it is rough, enhancing the adhesion of the paint. After polishing, thoroughly clean away dust and wipe the surface with a damp cloth to ensure it is clean and dust-free. This step is crucial for ensuring uniform adhesion of subsequent coats.

  2. Application of Wood Grain Primer
Apply the primer using spraying or roller coating methods. If there are any areas where the base is exposed, a second coat should be applied. Under suitable temperature conditions, the primer will dry in approximately 2 hours; if an alkali-resistant primer is used, it should be evenly applied and allowed to dry completely for 2-4 hours. The main functions of the primer are to prevent cement efflorescence, enhance base surface adhesion, and unify the color to provide a stable foundation for subsequent coats.

  3. Application of Wood Grain Topcoat and Creation of Wood Grain Patterns
After the primer has dried, apply the wood grain topcoat using a roller and simultaneously create the wood grain patterns. Key operational points: The patterns must be created while the topcoat is still wet to avoid losing the effect once it dries completely. The tool for creating the patterns is a specialized wood grain tool, which simulates straight or annual ring patterns through straight or curved techniques. The movements should be连贯 (consistent) and natural, avoiding repeated applications that could damage the naturalness of the patterns.

  4. Application of Sealer
After the wood grain has dried, apply two coats of a highly transparent dust-proof sealer, with a 2-hour interval between each coat. The sealer forms a protective layer that provides functions such as UV fade resistance, waterproofing, moisture resistance, dust and dirt resistance, and enhanced wear resistance, significantly extending the service life of the wood grain coating. Complete drying requires 24 hours.

Other Production Methods

  • Physical Processing: Use engraving machines, milling machines, and other equipment to directly engrave or cut patterns on the material surface, simulating the natural texture of wood. This method is suitable for scenarios with high texture requirements but involves higher equipment costs.
  • Chemical Treatment: Use chemical agents to create wood-like textures on the material surface, suitable for large-area uniform treatment. However, it requires strict control of agent concentration and reaction time, with a higher technical threshold.
  • Artistic Painting: Manually paint wood grain patterns to create personalized artistic effects. However, this method relies on the painter's skill level and has lower efficiency, mostly used for small-area decoration.

In practical applications, the method should be selected based on the material type, budget, and effect requirements of the prefabricated house. Wood grain paint application has become the mainstream choice due to its simple operation, moderate cost, and realistic effects.
