How to Make Prefabricated Terrazzo for Houses
The construction of prefabricated terrazzo for houses involves key steps such as base treatment, paving, grinding, and polishing. The specific process is as follows:

I. Base Treatment and Material Paving
- Base Cleaning and Anti-Crack Treatment: Before construction, thoroughly clean the base surface to remove dust, oil, and loose particles, ensuring a solid and flat base. Then, apply anti-crack mortar to enhance the bonding strength between the base and the terrazzo layer, preventing future cracking.
- Paving Terrazzo Material: Evenly spread the prepared terrazzo material (a mixture of cement and aggregate) onto the base. Use tools to repeatedly scrape it flat, ensuring the aggregate is fully covered by the cement paste and not exposed. The material surface should have smooth lines, be flat and even, with a thickness error controlled within ±2mm.
II. Prefabricated Terrazzo Paving
- Preparation of Dry-Wet Mortar Cushion Layer: After sweeping the floor, first lay a layer of dry-wet mortar (a mixture of cement and sand in proportion). The cushion layer should be evenly spread, with a thickness of about 30-50mm. Use tools to create sub-grid grooves (dividers) to prevent material interpenetration between different areas.
- Paving and Leveling: Lay the prefabricated terrazzo slabs according to the design pattern at the predetermined positions. Gently tap them with a rubber mallet to level them, ensuring the height difference between slab joints is ≤1mm and the joint width is uniform (usually 2-3mm). After all slabs are laid, let them stand for 24 hours for the mortar to initially set.
III. Grinding and Surface Treatment
- Rough Grinding Test: After the material is dry, use a coarse grinding disc (e.g., 60-120 mesh) for a grinding test to check the surface hardness. If no sand or loose particles are produced during the test, proceed with large-area grinding.
- Slurry Return and Curing Treatment: If holes appear on the surface after grinding, fill them with cement paste of the same color (slurry return treatment). After drying, spray a curing agent, ensuring a penetration depth of ≥3mm to enhance the surface hardness and wear resistance.
- Fine Grinding and Polishing: Successively use 200-mesh, 400-mesh, and 800-mesh grinding discs for repeated grinding to ensure the surface is flat, smooth, and fully ground, with the aggregate evenly exposed. Finally, use a polishing machine with polishing liquid to achieve a mirror-like finish.
IV. Protective Treatment
After grinding, apply a waterproof material (such as water-based polyurethane) to form a protective layer, preventing moisture penetration that could cause efflorescence or discoloration. The application should be even, with a thickness of ≥0.5mm. After drying, it can be put into use.
Precautions: The construction environment temperature should be controlled between 5-35℃, with humidity ≤85%. During grinding, promptly clean the dust to avoid affecting the surface quality. The curing agent and waterproof material should be mixed according to the product instructions to ensure performance standards are met.
