How to Make a Portable Toilet for Home Use

Admin October 08, 2026

You can refer to the following two methods to make a portable toilet for home use:

Method 1: Using a Water Storage Barrel

  1. Basic Structure Construction: Use an angle grinder to split the water storage barrel in half. Fix universal wheels at the four corners of a wooden board for easy mobility. Secure wooden strips and self-tapping screws to the upper side of the barrel to increase height and provide space for installing other components.
  2. Door and Wall Construction: Cut an opening on the side of the water storage barrel for the door. Install sponge strips to form the door frame and embed plastic soft boards to create raised walls, providing some privacy and protection.
  3. Roof Construction: Place the upper half of the water storage barrel on top of the wooden strips to form the roof, providing shelter for the interior of the toilet. Then, apply white waterproof paint to enhance aesthetics and waterproofing.
  4. Simple Door Construction: Use foam strips to拼接 (assemble) discarded honeycomb wooden boards to make a simple door that meets basic opening and closing needs.
  5. Drainage System Setup: Cut a hole at the bottom of the barrel and install a drain pipe to form a floor drain for easy sewage discharge. Cut holes on the side and bottom of a plastic bucket and install direct connectors. Place the plastic bucket on the roof to form a small water storage device for storing flushing water.
  6. Bathroom Facility Installation: Connect a water pipe-made bath heater to provide heating during bathing. Install a three-way connector below the water inlet pipe and connect a showerhead to meet bathing needs.
  7. Toilet Installation: Place the toilet and install the water tank, securing it with glass glue to ensure stability. Connect the drain pipe to the sewage bucket to collect sewage.
  8. Sink Setup: Connect a water pipe horizontally from the three-way connector of the outlet pipe and extend it to the door as the water inlet pipe for the sink for convenient use.

Method 2: Using a Water Storage Tank and a Pallet

Fix a universal wheel at each of the four corners of the bottom of the pallet to provide mobility for the entire portable toilet. On this basis, you can further install components such as a water storage tank. However, there is relatively little description of the subsequent installation steps for this method in the reference information. You can refer to Method 1 to complete other functions according to actual needs, such as installing a toilet and setting up a drainage system, to meet the basic usage requirements of a home portable toilet.
