How to Install Prefabricated House Eaves Boards
Admin September 18, 2026
The installation of prefabricated house eaves boards requires attention to precise measurement, firm fixation, and detailed handling. The specific steps are as follows:

I. Basic Measurement and Cutting
- Layout and Dimension Confirmation: Conduct precise layout according to the actual curvature and design dimensions of the eaves to ensure that the boards match the building structure. If the eaves have a curved shape, use a laser level or traditional plumb line method to assist in calibrating the curvature. Modern laser tools have smaller errors.
- Material Selection and Cutting: Traditional eaves boards are mostly made of lightweight and corrosion-resistant fir or pine wood. Modern options include PVC or anti-corrosion synthetic materials, but they should be coordinated with the architectural style. When cutting, reserve a 3-5 mm expansion joint to prevent board deformation or cracking due to thermal expansion and contraction.
- Regional Adaptability Adjustment: In northern regions with heavy snow loads, the board thickness should be increased to more than 2 cm to enhance load-bearing capacity. In the rainy areas of southern China, the eaves slope angle should be controlled between 25-30 degrees to ensure drainage efficiency and prevent rainwater backflow.
II. Pre-treatment and Fixation
- Waterproof Treatment: Before installation, apply a waterproof coating to the board surface, such as tung oil immersion or waterproof paint spraying. Pay special attention to the treatment of joint seams and nail holes to prevent rainwater penetration and decay.
- Fixation Sequence and Method: Fix the boards from the middle of the eaves to both sides to ensure even force distribution on the boards. Use stainless steel screws or copper nails, driving them in every 20-30 cm. The nail heads should be embedded 1-2 mm into the board surface and filled and leveled with putty to avoid nail head exposure affecting aesthetics or causing water accumulation.
III. Sealing and Beautification
- Board Seam Sealing: Fill the board joint seams with elastic weather-resistant sealant to accommodate expansion and contraction caused by temperature changes and prevent cracking and water leakage. The sealant should be applied evenly to ensure sealing performance.
- Eaves Detail Handling: Install a metal drip edge at the end of the eaves to guide rainwater away from the wall and reduce the risk of wall erosion. For antique-style buildings, traditional patterns such as meander patterns or scroll patterns can be carved on the edge of the closing board to enhance overall coordination.
Precautions: During the installation process, continuously check the flatness of the boards to avoid local warping. After fixation, clean the residual sealant and putty on the surface to maintain a clean appearance. If encountering complex shapes or special climatic conditions, it is recommended to adjust the detailed parameters in combination with professional construction specifications.
