How to Install Locks on Container Houses

Admin September 17, 2026

The methods for installing locks on container houses vary depending on the type of lock. Here are the common types and their installation methods:

Installation of Container Corner Fitting Locks

  1. Preparation before Installation: Confirm that the model of the corner fitting lock matches the container corner fittings. Check that all accessories are complete and undamaged. Prepare tools and consumables such as torque wrenches, and clean the installation holes.
  2. Positioning and Installation: Align the corner fitting lock with the reserved installation holes. Adjust the angle to ensure that the lock rod can smoothly engage with the lock hole in the corner fitting. Pass the matching bolts through the holes and tighten them with a torque wrench according to the torque value specified by the manufacturer (usually between 40 - 60N·m).
  3. Testing and Adjustment: After installation, pull the lock rod to test the opening and closing effect of the lock. Ensure that the lock rod can smoothly engage and disengage. For locks with spring reset mechanisms, check the spring rebound. If the opening and closing are not smooth, apply lubricating grease to the contact surfaces.
  4. Final Inspection: Open and close the lock multiple times. Check the tightness of the bolts and the fit between the lock body and the corner fittings. For locks used in maritime transport, confirm that the anti-rust treatment meets the requirements.

Installation of Container Mushroom Head Locks

  1. Preparation of Tools and Materials: Prepare a cordless drill, a 17mm drill bit, a wrench, and matching mushroom head locks (304 stainless steel is recommended). Accessories include bolts, nuts, and waterproof gaskets.
  2. Positioning and Drilling: With the container door closed, align the circular lock base at the bottom of the lock with the咬合处 (the area where the door frame and door panel meet). Mark the bolt hole positions with a marker pen. For conventional locks, drill a hole with a diameter of 17mm through the door frame steel plate.
  3. Securing the Lock Body: Insert the lock rod through the hole. On the inner side, use matching washers and nuts to pre-tighten. First, install the lower bolt to ensure that the lock rod is vertical.
  4. Adjustment and Testing: Manually turn the lock core to test if the rebound is smooth. When the lock rod is fully extended, it should protrude 8 - 10cm beyond the lock base. Finally, use a wrench to tighten all the nuts in a diagonal and sequential manner.
  5. Usage Precautions: During the rainy season, check the lubricity of the lock core and the anti-rust layer of the bolts every quarter. For heavy-duty containers, it is recommended to use side bolt locks in combination to form double protection. After the lock is installed, perform three consecutive opening and closing simulation tests. Some shipping companies require the lock installation height to be 1.2 - 1.5 meters from the ground.

Installation of Container Plastic Locks

First, place the lock body into the pre-dug hole, ensuring that the panel is flush with the door. Install two self-tapping screws. Then, insert the core into the square hole of the lock body, with the exposed length being equal on both sides. Install the threaded rod and sleeve on the outer handle plate. Align the square core with the outer handle plate. Finally, install the screws (do not tighten them too much), install the lock core, and use the key and knob to adjust the position and the feel of the斜舌 (oblique tongue) and方舌 (square tongue) as they extend and retract. Corresponding to the position of the lock body, install the strike plate box and strike plate.
