How to Install an Air Conditioner in a Container House
Admin September 16, 2026
The installation of an air conditioner in a container house involves multiple steps, including surveying, positioning, installation, and commissioning. Here are the specific steps:

Preliminary Survey and Preparation of Materials and Tools
- Surveying: Confirm the wall structure and load-bearing parameters. For example, the exterior walls of conventional prefabricated container houses are typically made of 50mm or 75mm thick color-steel sandwich rock wool panels. The static load-bearing capacity of a single hollow wall panel is usually no more than 30kg, while the self-weight of a 1.5-horsepower or larger wall-mounted air conditioner indoor unit generally exceeds 35kg. It is necessary to confirm whether there is an additional steel structural load-bearing auxiliary beam behind the installation location. If not, plan to add a load-bearing support solution. At the same time, survey the placement location of the outdoor unit and the route of the pipelines, avoiding ventilation dead zones, pedestrian passageways, and oil fume drainage ports. The pipeline route should avoid container joints and main load-bearing steel structural beams.
- Material Preparation: For scenarios requiring additional load-bearing capacity, prepare hot-dip galvanized angle steel or square tubes with a thickness of no less than 3mm as supports. For the outdoor unit bracket, choose a galvanized stainless steel bracket with a thickness of no less than 2mm. For the connecting pipelines, select pure copper connecting pipes that match the air conditioner's power. For the insulation cotton, use flame-retardant B1-grade insulation cotton with a thickness of no less than 10mm. For waterproof sealing materials, use neutral weather-resistant silicone sealant and polyurethane foam sealant.
- Tool Preparation: In addition to conventional electric drills, wrenches, spirit levels, and vacuum pumps, prepare a hole saw specifically for cutting color-steel sandwich panels.
Air Conditioner Position Selection
- Indoor Unit Position: There are various options such as wall-mounted, floor-standing, ceiling-mounted, and portable all-in-one units. Plan reasonably according to space requirements and user experience.
- Outdoor Unit Position: For ceiling-mounted installation, reinforce the top load-bearing structure to avoid hot air recirculation. For side-mounted installation, add metal reinforcing ribs at the corresponding positions inside the cabinet. For floor-mounted installation, ensure good ventilation, keep it away from debris, and secure it properly.
Installation Work
- Positioning and Hole Drilling: Position the indoor unit to avoid direct blowing. Choose a hole-drilling location in the lower right area below the mounting plate. After hole drilling, promptly seal the exposed core material of the sandwich panel at the hole edges.
- Installing the Air Conditioner Main Unit and Indoor Unit: Select an appropriate bracket according to the size and weight of the main unit and fix it. Connect the power cord, connecting pipes, and drainage pipe. Fix the indoor unit to the wall using expansion screws and other fasteners, and connect the power cord and connecting pipes.
Commissioning the Air Conditioner
After installation is complete, turn on the air conditioner's power supply for commissioning. Check the cooling and heating effects and air volume, and promptly troubleshoot any abnormalities.
Precautions
Ensure good sealing at the connections during installation, that the power cord meets safety standards and is properly grounded, pay attention to energy conservation when using the air conditioner, and contact professionals for maintenance.
