How to Decorate the Interior of a Container House

Admin September 17, 2026

The interior decoration of a container house should comprehensively consider space planning, structural modification, thermal insulation, decorative design, furniture selection, and lighting design to balance functionality and comfort.

1. Space Planning
A single standard container has an internal area of approximately 15 square meters, making space compact. It is necessary to divide the area according to functional needs. For example, it can be divided into a resting area (bedroom), a working area (desk or office table), and a living area (kitchen or living room), ensuring smooth movement between areas. If space is insufficient, multiple containers can be connected horizontally or vertically to expand the area, and every inch of space should be carefully calculated to integrate functions such as sleeping, living, working, and storage. For instance, one end of the container can be set as a bedroom, the other end as a living room, with a partition or furniture in between.

2. Structural Modification and Reinforcement
Openings (such as doors, windows, and air conditioning ducts) should be cut according to design requirements. After cutting, the edges of the openings should be reinforced with materials such as channel steel or square tubes to compensate for the loss of structural strength. When connecting multiple containers, special attention should be paid to the waterproofing and structural stability of the connections, using welding or bolts for fixation and applying waterproof sealant to prevent rainwater leakage.

3. Thermal Insulation and Moisture-Proofing
The steel body of a container conducts heat quickly, so a keel frame should be laid inside, filled with thermal insulation materials such as rock wool, glass wool, or polyurethane foam, and then covered with gypsum board or oriented strand board to form an insulation layer. Walls and ceilings can be equipped with moisture-proof membranes to prevent condensation due to temperature differences in humid areas (such as Jiangsu). The floor can be laid with moisture-proof mats or wooden flooring to enhance comfort.

4. Decorative Design
Choose a style according to the occupant's preferences, such as modern simplicity or rustic warmth. For example, in a 15-square-meter container 'mini villa,' the living room background wall can be designed with shapes, combining closed and open storage cabinets, with rounded corners to avoid bumps; the bedroom can have a unified wooden finish, with the container door decorated as a shelf; the bathroom corners can be rounded to match the style of the full-length storage cabinet. Light colors are recommended to enhance the sense of space.

5. Furniture Selection
Prioritize multifunctional furniture to save space, such as foldable sofa beds, dining tables with storage functions, and wall-mounted folding tables. For example, in one case, the living room furniture was designed to be foldable, the bedroom bed could be semi-folded into a sofa, and a folding table was designed on the left side to meet various usage scenarios.

6. Lighting Design
Enhance the sense of space through layered lighting. The main light should be an adjustable-brightness LED fixture to suit different activity needs (such as reading or resting); local lighting can be increased with wall lights, table lamps, or light strips to highlight functional areas;感应灯 (motion-sensor lights) can be embedded in corners or cabinets to avoid dark areas. It is recommended to choose warm white light (3000K-4000K) to create a cozy atmosphere.
