How to Connect Electricity to Container Houses

Admin September 16, 2026

Connecting electricity to container houses can be achieved through methods such as external power supply, roof solar panel power generation, portable generators, setting up compressors or liquefied gas tanks, and wind-solar hybrid smart power supply systems. If connecting to the public power grid, it is necessary to follow the formal application process.

Common Methods of Connecting Electricity

  • External Power Supply: After ensuring the container house is securely installed, install power distribution equipment according to design and requirements. Ordinary lighting distribution boxes can be directly installed on the wall, while power distribution boxes require insulation pads and proper grounding. Connect external wires to the preset water and electricity interfaces of the container, ensuring a firm and well-insulated connection. Additionally, the power of the external power supply should meet the needs of the electrical equipment.
  • Roof Solar Panel Power Generation: Install solar panels on the roof to collect solar energy and convert it into electricity, meeting the basic electricity needs of the container house, such as lighting, refrigerators, and televisions.
  • Using Portable Generators: Portable generators powered by natural gas or gasoline can be used to supply electricity to the container house when needed.
  • Setting Up Compressors or Liquefied Gas Tanks: Utilize liquefied gas and compressor generators for power supply, but pay great attention to safety during use to avoid dangers.
  • Wind-Solar Hybrid Smart Power Supply System: Collect natural energy through wind turbines and solar panels, convert it into electricity, store it in batteries, and then convert direct current into alternating current through an inverter for use. However, the installation and maintenance of this system require certain professional knowledge and technical support.

Process of Connecting to the Public Power Grid

  • Understand Policies and Requirements: Familiarize yourself with the specific policies, requirements, and procedures of the local power company and relevant government departments regarding electricity usage. Confirm whether the purpose of the container house falls within the scope of agricultural electricity or residential electricity usage.
  • Prepare Application Materials: Include identification documents (such as resident ID cards, household registration books, etc.), land and housing certificates (such as land lease contracts, temporary construction permits, etc.), and electricity demand descriptions (specifying electricity consumption, usage time, electrical equipment and their capacities, etc., and writing an electricity application letter).
  • Submit Application and Wait for Review: Choose to submit application materials offline at the local power supply business hall or online through the official website or mobile app of the power supply enterprise. The power company will review the application and may arrange for on-site inspections.
  • Sign Contract and Connect Electricity for Use: After approval, sign a power supply contract with the power company, which will organize the installation of an electricity meter and connect the electricity.

In addition, during the electrification process, pay attention to wire arrangement, try to lay wires along walls or concealed areas and cover them with insulation tubes; post electricity safety notices; and regularly inspect the circuit to ensure electricity safety.
