How to Clean a Dog's Portable Toilet

Admin October 16, 2026

You can refer to the following steps to clean a dog's portable toilet, ensuring hygiene and preventing bacterial growth:

  1. Promptly Remove Excreta After each use, immediately handle feces and urine to prevent residue from hardening or breeding bacteria. If the excreta has clumped, use paper towels or a scoop to initially remove it, reducing the difficulty of subsequent cleaning.

  2. Deep Clean the Surface Thoroughly clean the toilet with soapy water or a pet-specific cleaner. Pay special attention to cleaning corners, crevices, and the bottom grooves, as these areas are prone to dirt accumulation. Use a long-handled brush to scrub repeatedly, ensuring no residue remains. For stubborn stains (such as dried feces), you can first soak the toilet: immerse it in water mixed with disinfectant liquid or powder for more than 30 minutes to soften the stains and kill bacteria, then rinse it thoroughly with clean water.

  3. Disinfect After cleaning, disinfect to kill pathogens. You can choose diluted bleach (mixed at a ratio of 1:10) or a pet-specific disinfectant, and spray or wipe it evenly on the surface. After disinfection, be sure to rinse thoroughly with clean water to prevent pets from coming into contact with residual chemicals. If the toilet material is heat-resistant, you can also disinfect it by scalding with boiling water.

  4. Air-Dry and Ventilate Naturally When conditions permit, place the toilet in the sun to dry for 2-3 hours. Ultraviolet rays can further break down bacteria and remove odors, while accelerating the evaporation of residual moisture to prevent mildew. If sun exposure is not possible, ensure the toilet is completely dry before reuse to avoid bacterial growth in a humid environment.

  5. Deodorize and Maintain If the toilet still has an odor, spray it with a pet-specific deodorizer (such as Suquwei). Avoid using air fresheners, as their ingredients may irritate a pet's respiratory tract. Regularly check the toilet's structure, such as whether the tray is loose or the edges are cracked, and promptly repair or replace damaged parts to extend its service life.

Precautions:

  • Wear gloves when cleaning to avoid direct contact with excreta or disinfectants.
  • Bleach and cleaners should be used separately, as mixing them may produce toxic gases.
  • It is recommended to disinfect once or twice a week. If the pet's health is not good or the toilet is used frequently, increase the frequency.

By systematically cleaning and disinfecting, you can effectively maintain the hygiene of a dog's portable toilet and safeguard your pet's health.
