How to Build a Portable Toilet Well

Admin October 06, 2026

A simple portable toilet can be constructed by modifying a water storage tank or container, with a focus on structural stability, functional completeness, and mobility. Here are the specific construction methods and key points:

I. Water Storage Tank Modification Plan

  1. Basic Structure Construction

    • Select a corrosion-resistant plastic water storage tank and use an angle grinder to cut it in half along the central axis, keeping the complete tank lid as the roof. Install universal wheels at the four corners of the cut wooden board to ensure mobility.
    • Use wooden strips and self-tapping screws to add a support frame around the edge of the tank, raising the overall height to 1.8-2 meters to accommodate standing. Cut a rectangular door opening (recommended size: 60cm×180cm) on the side, attach foam strips around the door frame for impact resistance, and reserve positions for installing hinges.
  2. Wall and Roof Treatment

    • Insert transparent or semi-transparent plastic soft panels as walls, securing them to the frame with clips or screws to balance privacy and lighting. The tank lid roof should be painted with waterproof paint to prevent rain leakage and can be sprayed with eco-friendly paint for aesthetic enhancement.
    • Drill a hole at the bottom to install a drain pipe (diameter 5-8cm), connecting it to an external sewage tank or sewer to ensure smooth drainage. Reserve an inlet on the side to connect a plastic bucket as a water storage device for flushing or hand washing.
  3. Sanitary Facility Installation

    • Use PVC pipes to make a simple bath heater bracket and install a low-power heating lamp (compliant with safety standards). A portable plastic toilet can be selected, connected to a water tank and a three-way valve for flushing.
    • Connect the showerhead to the water storage tank via a hose, using a spray head design to save water. All pipes should be fixed with sealant to prevent leaks.

II. Water Storage Container and Pallet Modification Plan

  1. Mobile Chassis Construction

    • Select a high-strength plastic pallet as the base, weld metal brackets at the four corners, and install universal wheels to ensure load-bearing capacity (recommended load-bearing ≥200kg). Thoroughly clean the recycled water storage container and cut the top to form an open container.
  2. Container Combination and Functional Area Division

    • Stack two open containers and fix the outer frame with self-tapping screws to form a double-layer structure. Cut a rectangular door opening (height 180cm, width 50cm) and divide the interior into a toilet area and a hand washing area with wooden boards.
    • Drill a hole in the floor to install a 45° elbow and a drain pipe, seal the gaps around the toilet with waterproof glue after fixing it. Install a faucet and a stainless steel basin hand washing sink on the wall with clips, reserving storage space below.
  3. Facility Connection and Detail Optimization

    • Connect the toilet tank inlet pipe to an external water storage tank, use a retractable design for the shower hose, and fix the showerhead on the wall. Ensure the toilet seat aligns with the container opening during installation to avoid inconvenience.
    • Make a door panel with wooden boards, install hinges and door handles, and attach sealing strips around the door seam to prevent odors. An awning or ventilation window can be added externally to enhance comfort.

III. Key Considerations

  • Material Selection: Prioritize corrosion-resistant and lightweight materials (such as plastic and aluminum alloy) and avoid using metals prone to rust.
  • Waterproof Treatment: Apply waterproof glue to all seams and install drainage pipes with a slope (≥5%) to prevent water accumulation.
  • Safety Regulations: Install a leakage protector for the electrical circuit and keep gas heating equipment (such as bath heaters) away from flammable materials.
  • Environmental Requirements: Regularly clean the sewage tank or connect it to a septic tank for harmless treatment.
