How to Build a Portable Toilet

Admin September 22, 2026

A portable toilet can be constructed using a water storage tank. Here are the specific steps:

Basic Structure Construction

  1. Water Storage Tank Processing: Use an angle grinder to split the water storage tank vertically in the middle, creating two symmetrical half-tank structures. Ensure that the cutting surface is flat to avoid gaps during subsequent assembly.
  2. Mobile Device Installation: Fix universal wheels at each of the four corners of the wooden board, ensuring that each wheel is firmly connected to the board. The wooden board serves as the base of the portable toilet and should be made of a material with strong load-bearing capacity, such as anti-corrosion wood or engineering plastic.
  3. Height Adjustment: Take several wooden strips and vertically fix them to the upper edge of the tank using self-tapping screws to form a frame structure. The number of wooden strips should be adjusted according to the diameter of the tank, usually 4-6 strips are sufficient. The purpose is to increase the internal height of the toilet and enhance user comfort.

Wall and Roof Construction

  1. Doorway Creation: Use an angle grinder to cut a rectangular doorway on the side of the water storage tank. The size should allow for normal adult entry and exit, generally with a width of no less than 60 cm and a height of no less than 180 cm.
  2. Door Frame Reinforcement: Install sponge strips on both sides of the doorway to form an elastic door frame. This not only cushions the impact when opening and closing the door but also enhances the seal to prevent odor leakage.
  3. Walls and Roof: Insert plastic soft panels between the wooden strips to form elevated walls. The soft panels should be made of a waterproof and easy-to-clean material. Invert the upper half of the water storage tank and place it on top of the wooden strips to serve as the roof, ensuring a tight connection with the walls to prevent rainwater infiltration.

Internal Facility Installation

  1. Drainage System: Drill holes at the bottom of the tank and install a drainage pipe to form a floor drain, connecting it to a sewage tank. Drill holes on the side and install direct connectors to connect to the water storage device, forming a circulating drainage system.
  2. Sanitary Equipment: Place the toilet on the drainage pipe opening, install the water tank, and secure it with glass glue. Connect the bath heater through a water pipe, install a three-way connector below the inlet pipe, and connect it to the showerhead. Extend the inlet pipe of the washbasin horizontally from the three-way connector of the outlet pipe to the doorway, and drill a hole in the door to install the faucet.
  3. Decoration and Protection: Paint the wooden strips with white waterproof paint to enhance aesthetics and extend their service life. Use foam strips to拼接 (assemble) discarded honeycomb wooden boards to make a simple door, ensuring smooth opening and closing after fixation.
