How to Build a Mobile Toilet

Admin September 22, 2026

You can refer to the following two methods for building a mobile toilet, with specific steps outlined below:

Method 1: Constructing a Portable Toilet Using a Water Storage Barrel

  1. Basic Structure Construction

    • Use an angle grinder to split the water storage barrel vertically in half, creating two semi-circular barrel bodies. Install universal wheels at the four corners of the wooden base for easy mobility.
    • Use wooden strips and self-tapping screws to elevate the edges of the barrel bodies, forming a wall frame. Cut out a doorway on the side and install sponge strips as sealing material for the door frame.
    • Insert plastic soft panels as walls and cover the upper part with waterproof material (such as waterproof cloth or waterproof paint) as a roof to enhance aesthetics and rain resistance.
  2. Drainage and Water Storage System

    • Drill holes at the bottom to install drainage pipes, forming a floor drain structure. Drill holes on the side to connect interfaces and insert plastic buckets as water storage devices for collecting sewage.
    • Install a simple bathroom heater made from water pipes (optional), three-way connectors, and a showerhead. Connect the toilet tank and drainage pipes to the sewage bucket to ensure smooth drainage.
  3. Functional Component Installation

    • Place the toilet and secure the tank, connecting the inlet and outlet pipes. If a shower function is needed, install a shower hose and nozzle.
    • Check the sealing of all connections to prevent leaks.

Method 2: Constructing a Portable Toilet Using a Water Storage Tank and Pallet

  1. Mobile Chassis and Tank Preparation

    • Fix universal wheels at the bottom of a plastic pallet and place a recycled water storage tank (cleaned and disinfected) on it.
    • Use an angle grinder to cut the top of the water storage tank, creating an open tank body. Stack two tank bodies and secure them with self-tapping screws to increase internal space.
  2. Internal Structure and Sewage System

    • Cut out a rectangular opening as a doorway and drill holes in the internal floor to install elbows and water pipes. Seal the gaps and secure the toilet.
    • Fix water pipes on the wall with clips, install a faucet, pipe caps, and a stainless steel basin as a sink, and connect the toilet tank inlet pipe and shower hose.
  3. Functional Enhancement and Detail Handling

    • Install a showerhead and toilet seat to enhance comfort.
    • Fix a wooden board as a door to ensure privacy. Check the stability of all components to prevent wobbling.

Classification and Selection of Mobile Toilets

  • Structural Form: Single-unit structure (independent unit) or composite structure (multi-unit combination).
  • Mobility Method: Hoisting type (requires lifting equipment), manual handling type, or powered towing type (can be connected to a vehicle for towing).
  • Sewage Treatment Method: Water flush type (requires a water source), waterless flush suction type (regular cleaning of the fecal storage tank), or circulating water flush type (water-saving and environmentally friendly).

Precautions: Plan the dimensions before construction to ensure reasonable space; materials should be waterproof and corrosion-resistant; if used in public places, comply with hygiene standards and conduct regular maintenance.
