How to Build a Mobile Toilet

Admin September 27, 2026

The construction of a mobile toilet can be carried out using the following two typical plans based on different materials and requirements. The specific steps are as follows:

I. Building a Mobile Toilet Using a Water Storage Barrel

  1. Base Frame Construction

    • Split a water storage barrel in half lengthwise and choose one half as the main structure. Install universal wheels at the four corners of the wooden board to ensure mobility.
    • Use wooden strips and self-tapping screws to raise the frame along the edge of the barrel (height adjustable according to needs). Cut out a doorway on the side and install sponge strips to create a sealed door frame structure.
  2. Wall and Roof Installation

    • Insert plastic soft panels as wall materials, ensuring the seams are sealed. The upper half of the retained water storage barrel serves as the roof, with waterproof paint applied to the surface to enhance aesthetics and durability.
  3. Drainage and Water Storage System

    • Drill a hole at the bottom to install a drainage pipe forming a floor drain, and drill a hole on the side to connect a three-way joint. Place a plastic bucket on top as a water storage device for flushing or recycling water.
  4. Sanitary Facility Installation

    • Install a simple bathroom heater (optional) made from a water pipe, a toilet, and a water tank. The drainage pipe should be connected to an independent sewage bucket to ensure centralized sewage treatment.

II. Building a Mobile Toilet Using a Water Storage Tank and a Pallet

  1. Mobile Pallet Preparation

    • Fix universal wheels at the four corners of a plastic pallet and place a recycled water storage tank as the main structure.
  2. Water Storage Tank Modification

    • Use an angle grinder to cut the top of the water storage tank to form an open tank. Stack two tanks and fix the outer frame with self-tapping screws to increase the internal space height.
  3. Doorway and Internal Structure

    • Cut out a rectangular doorway measuring 180 cm in height and 50 cm in width. Drill a hole in the internal floor to install an elbow and a water pipe, forming a drainage channel.
  4. Sanitary Facility Fixation

    • Place the toilet and secure it with glue. Install water pipes and faucets on the wall using clips, and install a stainless steel basin below as a handwashing basin.
  5. Water System Connection

    • Connect the water inlet pipe of the toilet tank, the shower hose, and install a showerhead and a toilet seat. The door panel should be customized according to the opening size to ensure a seal.

III. Classification and Selection of Mobile Toilets

  • Structural Form: Divided into single-unit structures (independent units) or composite structures (multi-unit combinations).
  • Mobility Method: Includes hoisting type (requiring lifting equipment), handling type (manual or small machinery), or powered towing type (connectable to vehicles for movement).
  • Sewage Treatment Method: Water-flush type (requiring a water source), waterless suction type (relying on vacuum suction), or circulating water-flush type (water-saving design).

Precautions: Before construction, confirm the load-bearing capacity of the materials to ensure structural stability; water and electrical installations must comply with safety regulations; choose a sewage treatment method according to the usage scenario to avoid environmental pollution.
