How Much Does a Container House Cost?

Admin September 15, 2026

The cost of a container house varies widely depending on factors such as purchase, rental, size, material, and decoration level, ranging from several thousand to tens of thousands of yuan.

I. Purchase Price

  1. Basic Model Price: A standard 3m x 6m (approximately 18 square meters) container house, the price of a basic new model may vary from several tens of thousands of yuan, while second-hand models are usually priced within 10,000 yuan, with some listed at around 5,000 yuan. For example, the price of some brand-new residential container houses ranges from 8,000 to 10,000 yuan, while some customized residential container mobile homes can be purchased for as low as 5,800 yuan, including basic wall insulation and double-glazed windows.
  2. High-End Customization Price: If better materials and interior decoration are used, such as luxury flat-top mobile homes or those using rock wool sandwich panels, the price will be higher, possibly reaching tens of thousands of yuan or even more. For example, some container houses are priced as high as 23,800 yuan, or even over 50,000 yuan. These houses typically feature multiple functions such as fire prevention, waterproofing, moisture resistance, wind resistance, earthquake resistance, and rain protection, with sizes and configurations customizable according to customer needs.

II. Rental Price

  1. Daily Rental Fee: The rental fee for container houses is usually calculated on a daily basis, with the daily rental fee for a single container house generally starting at over 6 yuan, but there is usually a minimum rental period requirement, such as 120 days. For example, a 3m x 6m container house may be rented for 6 yuan per day, costing only 180 yuan per month or 2,160 yuan per year.
  2. Additional Fees: In addition to the rental fee, customers are also required to pay a deposit and transportation fee. The deposit is usually refunded upon the expiration of the rental period and provided that the house is undamaged, while the transportation fee is determined based on the distance between the rental location and the supplier.

III. Factors Affecting Price

  1. Material: Color steel plates are cheaper but have poor sound insulation, while rock wool sandwich panels are about 30% more expensive but offer better fire prevention and insulation. The thickness of the panels and the color steel skin also directly determine the price.
  2. Specification: For areas less than 100 square meters, the unit price increases by about 10%, while for areas greater than 500 square meters, the unit price decreases by 10% to 15%. A two-story structure is 15% to 25% more expensive than the first floor.
  3. Region: Prices in first-tier cities are 10% to 30% higher than those in second- and third-tier cities, with additional charges based on distance for transportation exceeding 50 kilometers. In remote areas, labor and transportation costs increase, leading to an increase in the unit price.
