How Much Do Container Houses Cost
Admin September 17, 2026
The prices of container houses vary depending on their type, material, size, configuration, and regional differences, ranging from 5,000 yuan to 30,000 yuan, with the lowest price per square meter being less than 300 yuan and the highest reaching up to 3,000 yuan.

I. Classification by Type
- Second-hand Renovated Models: The cheapest second-hand container houses cost between 5,000 and 10,000 yuan, suitable for scenarios with limited budgets and low requirements for living conditions, such as temporary storage or simple accommodation.
- Construction Site Temporary Houses: Built with second-hand panels, the total price for an 18-square-meter house is just over 5,000 yuan, with a price per square meter of less than 300 yuan. This is the most cost-effective option, though it has poor durability and comfort.
- Brand-new Basic Models: A brand-new container house with standard dimensions (6 meters long × 3 meters wide) costs about 10,000 yuan, suitable for short-term use or scenarios requiring structural integrity.
- Functionally Upgraded Models: Container houses with folding functions or packing designs cost between 8,000 and 12,000 yuan, facilitating transportation and reuse, suitable for scenarios requiring flexible mobility.
- High-end Customized Models: Such as those used in popular homestays, equipped with floor-to-ceiling windows, smart home systems, or solar panels, cost between 20,000 and 30,000 yuan each, with a price per square meter ranging from 1,500 to 3,000 yuan, suitable for long-term residence or commercial use.
II. Classification by Material and Configuration
- Rock Wool Medium-grade Models: The unit price ranges from 600 to 1,500 yuan per square meter. For example, an 18-square-meter packing-box house costs 8,500 yuan in total, with a price per square meter of approximately 472 yuan. It balances fire resistance, sound insulation, and thermal insulation, suitable for construction site offices or temporary housing.
- Configuration Differences: The prices of high-end customized models vary significantly due to different configurations. Additional features such as solar panels and smart home systems significantly increase costs.
III. Regional Differences
- Premium in First-tier Cities: Prices in cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou are 10% to 20% higher than those in smaller cities due to higher labor and logistics costs.
- Advantages in Coastal Cities: Coastal areas may have prices about 10% lower than inland areas due to convenient transportation, but corrosion protection costs need to be considered.
