How Mobile Toilets Work

Admin September 21, 2026

The operating methods of mobile toilets vary depending on their types, mainly including traditional flush toilets, packing toilets, foam-sealing toilets, microbial degradation toilets, and some types with rainwater recycling functions.

Traditional flush mobile toilets operate similarly to ordinary flush toilets. They have a large water tank at the bottom for storing sewage. After a user uses the toilet, the waste is flushed into the tank through a flushing device. Since the tank has a limited capacity, after a period of use, it will be filled with sewage. At this point, a fecal suction truck is needed to pump out the sewage and transport it away for treatment to ensure the normal use of the toilet.

Packing mobile toilets employ automatic packing technology. An automatic bagging device is installed below the toilet bowl. After a user defecates, the device automatically puts a garbage bag around the waste, isolating it from the external environment. This method not only prevents odors from spreading but also facilitates centralized treatment of the waste later, reducing the difficulty and frequency of cleaning.

Foam-sealing mobile toilets use a special foam generator to squeeze a thick layer of foam onto the surface of the toilet bowl. This layer of foam completely covers the toilet, providing excellent odor control. At the same time, the foam reduces the friction between the waste and the toilet bowl walls, making it easier to flush the waste away and thus saving water. Moreover, the foam has a certain lubricating and cleaning effect, keeping the toilet bowl clean.

Microbial degradation mobile toilets utilize advanced microbial technology. A dedicated microbial treatment device is installed inside the toilet, containing a large number of specific bacteria. These bacteria can decompose and transform the organic matter in the waste. After treatment, 99% of the waste can be turned into fertilizer and clean water. For example, this type of mobile toilet was used at the Shanghai World Expo, which was both environmentally friendly and efficient.

In addition, some mobile toilets are equipped with the cutting-edge technology of rainwater recycling. They collect rainwater through special collection devices and use it for toilet flushing and other purposes after filtration and purification treatment, achieving water resource recycling and further improving the environmental performance of mobile toilets.
